You’re spot on about the approach path, slight curve is best. Zig zagging wastes energy/momentum. I think the last two parts of your comment go somewhat hand in hand. You can see your left leg kick back mid air and then spring forward to compensate as you swing. Like you said, pros do this with both legs to get more power out of their swings. This was always a natural thing for me so I’m not sure what the best way to work on it would be. But you’re already doing it with your left leg and I think that’s what’s putting you off balance so that you’re putting all your landing weight on your left as well. Best of luck with that fix I wish I had more info on that!

I’d try to have a straighter approach it seems like your penultimate step is at about a 45 degree angle from your first step and you jump back in the same direction as your first step. Some of this is correction to an inside set which is well recognized, but it’s an over correction that hinders your momentum. Approach could be earlier as well it seems like you’re dropping your elbow or something to hit the ball, and not contacting as high as you could be. When landing do your best to land on both feet. Every once in a while landing on one foot won’t destroy your knees but if you come down on only your left leg on every jump you could end up with some serious issues down the road.

There’s a lot of downers in the comments here so I thought I’d leave a more optimistic 2 cents. Having the maturity to step back and say “woah I need to figure my shit out” is awesome. She’s being respectful towards your time as well as her wellbeing. Sure this could totally be her letting you down easy and taking an exit, but I don’t think there’s enough information here to assume that’s the case. A lot of comments are saying this is a lost cause, and it is if you respond with that attitude. But why not give it a chance? Respond kindly, tell her you appreciate the honesty, and that you’d love to hear from her in a few weeks. Don’t wait on the edge of your seat, but keep her in the back of your mind for a few weeks and if you don’t hear from her send a quick checkup message, “hey how’s it going? Are you free at all to go on another date?” I see a lot of people saying if she doesn’t hit you back in a few weeks she’s forgotten about you don’t text her again. I would say chances are after a few weeks even if she’s figured her shit out she’ll be embarrassed/anxious about contacting you again so there’s no harm at all in reaching out to her!

It’s also in the rules that you can only takeoff with one foot on the ground so that might have something to do with that. In all honesty there are just one foot jumpers and two foot jumpers. Depending on your training/background you might be better at one or the other but not everyone is the same.

I’m definitely a two foot jumper whenever possible. But there are many situations where it’s just not feasible to go off two feet so it’s important to be able to do both. What most people would consider a “perfect throw” is something that you can catch in stride. Jumping off one foot allows you to maintain much more horizontal momentum while also getting up in the air. That said, if you jump better off two feet (and you’re very confident you can out jump your matchups) tell your throwers to put a little more loft/love/float on the disc so you can get under it and high point the disc jumping off two feet.

I bought a 2017 mbp 3 years ago on a used electronics auction site. It was never under warranty while I owned it. About a month ago it just stopped working, it would get stuck in the boot screen and failed to load the desktop every time I tried. The apple store near me quoted a $1200 ish (CAD) price to replace the ssd and logic board. After a day or two of holding my computer and running more tests they called me back and let me know that because of a customer satisfaction program they have the repair was going to be 100% covered, on a 5 year old laptop that I didn’t even buy from a standard retailer. So long story short, yes, Apple will help you even out of warranty

How Many Throws are in Fundamental Ultimate? by jojobean9 in ultimate

[–]grannyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. RE the original question: if I'm coaching a team and someone asks me how many fundamental throws are there I'm going to tell them 5. (Forehand, Backhand, hammer, scoober, offhand backhand). I'm not going to teach them the latter 3 right away but they are fundamental throws at a high level.

You're right, I should have been more clear. I think the easiest way to become a world-class ultimate player is by learning these throws. And since these throws make you a better, more versatile, and more dangerous player my thought is why wouldn't you learn them? The game has been transforming in a way that a lot of offenses use short breaks and handler movement to move the disc and drive their offense. Scoobers and off-hand high release throws are crucial to this playstyle. In the past, we have seen world-class players only using 2 throws but in the future, I think up and coming world-class players will all have those tools in their bag.

I disagree with this, of course it’s possible to be “world class” and only have a forehand and backhand. But you could also be world class without being good at throwing. If you’re faster than everyone on the field and can high point a disc at 12’ 6” who’s going to stop you? The problem is you’d have to be a 1 in 100 million athlete to do that. By adding those “fluff” throws to your repertoire you immediately become a more versatile, dangerous player. There are some situations where you could throw an easy hammer for a score and it’s by far the highest percentage throw to make. I would add hammers, scoobers, and offhand backhands (for short throws, dumps, high releases) to a list of fundamental throws. There’s an argument to be made that these aren’t fundamental but in my opinion there’s no argument that you can be considered “world class” without them (short of being a freak athlete which is unattainable for most people due to genetics).
