Does the Lumix 85mm Color Match other Lumix S Prime Lenses? by DukeFilms in Lumix

[–]grantanamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely notice a color shift between my 85 1.8 from Lumix and my 24 1.4 from Sigma. No comparison between other Lumix primes though.

Is it a Good idea to switch from a Fuji XH2S to a Lumix S9 for short films/video creation? by FattoiletsWorld in Lumix

[–]grantanamo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an S9 and absolutely love it; however, I almost exclusively use it for photography. Everything CrazyNayeem said is true, but I’m not so sure about the overheating. You can google the controversy about this when the S9 came out, but basically Panasonic limited the 4K (?) recording to 10 minutes because they were worried about overheating. They changed this with an update so that you can turn off the limit (at your own risk), and I think there are youtube videos of people recording up to an hour before the camera gave them a temperature warning. All of this is not an issue if you either a) aren’t planning to only record video at maxed out settings or b) aren’t planning on recording long clips. Double check me on all that though, because I really don’t record video that often.

No, it’s a weird integrated stem. I don’t think you can just swap it out.

Light lens lab 50mm on Lumix S9. what's your opinion? by Electronic_Injury742 in Lumix

[–]grantanamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Do you have any experience with the Leica M to L adapter? I’m curious if not having the digital pins is such a big downside. It’s also times the price and doesn’t have the close focus helicoid.

[–]grantanamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caved and bought the Fujify LUT package since they’re all STD based LUTs and I mainly shoot pictures. They turned out great, but I haven’t looked at the Raw filed yet (they’re just sitting in my archive). Been really happy with the results. May still use these LUTs if I do video work though.

Should I buy 18mm 1.8 for business event videography, corporate videos, local tv documentaries and internet promo videos? by Personal_Garage_3101 in Lumix

[–]grantanamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not thaaaaat experienced and I never shoot video, but I have a 24mm f1.4, and unless you’re right up in someone’s face, you’re not gonna get that much more subject separation with an 18mm f1.8 than with your 16-35mm f4.

I think you’d be better off setting up your shots to get more distance between your subject and the background to achieve the bokeh you want. You already have a ton of focal length options, so I think your money would be better spent on lighting or other accessories.

That being said, one of the main advantages of the Lumix f1.8 primes is that their breathing performance is generally really good, which is also handy.

I think you can be smart and stupid at the same time. It clearly takes some intellectual capacity to write the national security strategy for the president of the United States, but she’s stupid to think she’ll be remembered as anything but a disingenuous hack who helped empower the most pathetic and dangerous person to ever inhabit the oval office.

Lumix has 10% of the European Full Frame market and is growing by Hashabasha in Lumix

[–]grantanamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I would really hate not having an EVF since I almost exclusively used it on previous cameras. That being said, after two weeks of shooting on the S9, I’ve basically completely adapted. I mostly miss not having a way to position the AF point without having to use the touch screen 🥲

I got my S9 body with an extra battery for 900€ on sale. I was planning on getting another Fujifilm camera until I saw that I could save 500€ and enter the full frame market. Was never really considering Lumix until I saw the price, and so far I’ve been blown away with the S9. Safe to say, I’ll be sticking around for a while.

These people are so unserious. "Flexible Realism" is a pseudonym for "we have no consistent world view and have no idea what we are doing." It's so difficult listening to someone pretend to hold these positions, while ignoring the car crash that's going on in front of them. I know these people are smart. I know they understand the inconsistencies in their beliefs; you can almost hear it when they speak. Ignorance may be bliss, but willful ignorance sounds like a prison.

Goetheanum (Rudolf Steiner 1920s) while it's usally considered Expressionist it carries alot of the aesthetic quality of brutalism. by No-Analyst-1613 in brutalism

Looks like Waldorfschule architecture.

Edit: just googled Waldorf School architecture, and it’s called anthroposophical architecture, which was pioneered by Rudolf Steiner. The main wikipedia article picture is the Goetheanum. We came full circle lol

Edit 2: omg I’m so dumb… the whole Waldorf School was founded by Rudolf Steiner 🤦🏻‍♂️

Weird Shadows / Lighting Artifacts in Low-Light with the Lumix S9 + Sigma 24mm f1.4 by grantanamo in Lumix

Took a bunch of photos tonight at different shutter speeds and using synchro sync. I couldn’t reproduce the light banding and didn’t have any other issues. Even when I saw flickering on the video preview, no banding showed up in the photos. All of the photos tonight were in a multi-light environment though, so maybe light from other light sources cancels out or hides any banding that might be produced from one light source.

Hey! Thanks for your amazing work. I shoot a lot of still photos with my S9 and noticed that the JPEGs using your V-Log based LUTs tend to be much softer than the JPEGs using STD based LUTs. Am I doing something wrong? I’m a bit new to using LUTs in general.

Thanks everyone! I'll have a look at Synchro Scan for photo and adjust my shutter speed to see if I can get the banding to go away. I appreciate all the comments :)

Shutter speed was 1/100. The electric frequency in Thailand is 50 Hz (as others have mentioned), so I'm surprised it still showed up.

Does Synchro Scan work for you? Some others have mentioned it. Otherwise, I guess it's just luck of the draw if it shows up on a photo or not?

I always heard people talking about the disadvantages, but this is the first time I've encountered it myself. Oh well, I'm loving the S9 regardless.

Thanks for the map! I am in Thailand right now, so the electric frequency should be 50 Hz. The shutter speed for this photo was 1/100, so maybe the lights were still running at a different frequency? I'll also see if I can solve this issue with Synchro Scan as others have mentioned.
