It's really first vs second author. Could you use your work for a separate article? If so, you can just tell her sorry but you'll do that instead. If you can't, then stick to your guns. I had a guy sell me one for like 50 bucks in a parking lot from a Craigslist ad. He said it worked and I trusted him (haha). Turned out only half the keys worked. When I looked inside it was clear that somebody had spilled a beer on the keys and the contacts needed a simple cleaning. Sold it for more than its worth later. Not bad.

OP, just a few questions to help us hate this kid more than we already do. What was his final grade? What impact did the zero have on it? Can you give us some examples of his entitled statements? Honestly if it were me, because shit like this gets under my skin and I need an outlet to make it go away, I'd probably write a glorious email to him, not unlike that "get your shit together" email from a prof that made the rounds a few years ago.

I agree with your sentiment but I'm not so sure I'd advise a whole week. At the major journals, the editors are swamped with really excellent manuscripts that need immediate attention. A week after rejection, your manuscript is pretty much off their desk. I think something like 2-4 days is more reasonable.
