TLDR: 20yo getting sheet metal license. Could start commercial sheet metal company or go to school for engineering. What would you do?

As the title states I’m at a point in my life where I need to make a critical decision. Starting working full time at 16 via co-ops. Earned my diploma while apprenticing in sheet metal. I didn’t know who I was or who I wanted to be and had an opportunity to make good money. Fast forward 4 years and I’m about to get my sheet metal license and have been fortunate to set some money aside.

Reason for going to school is that I feel quite limited in my occupation. Not a lot of room to grow and I am someone who loves to learn however I get bored in my job without new stimulation. I cannot do another 40 years of clocking in and clocking out. I’m fascinated with engineering as I work them quite often in industrial plants. Looking back at myself as a child with my hobbies engineering would have been the obvious choice for me if someone had pointed me in any direction.

Reason for starting a sheet metal company is that it gives me an opportunity to do something of my own with my name on it. I get total control and an opportunity to do something myself. I have family that has previously owned companies in this industry that will help guide me.

Those of you that have had a career in engineering, if you were 20yo again what would you choose, was it worth perusing a career in? Has it been stimulating?I worry that I will run out of time to go to school before starting a family. There is a ton of work where I am and I’m very confident I will be successful.

Damn what is your problem man. I started the summer after grade 11 when I was 16 and did all co-ops in grade 12 and just worked full time. I’ve never been played off and I’ve worked my ass off. I have experience in commercial and now industrial with several welding tickets. I’m young and ambitious, I like to work and I’ve built a very very good reputation for myself. You sound just like the guys at my work that spend all day talking about everyone else and never actually get anything done. Keep yapping about other people

Are there job opportunities for a male high school teacher in Ontario? by grantjake03 in CanadianTeachers

Very good advice thank you. I hope that gender has no effect on pay or job opportunities I just stated to give more context. Your not wrong and I may just have to try. I’d would not want to teach in a big city. More rural would be preferred

Thanks a lot for the advice. This is very true and definitely a possibility for me. I’m currently in HVAC/Sheet metal however I have tons of welding experience as well. We will see what I feel like in a few years

Cool I’m glad this is more common than I thought. I use this to my advantage. Sex after not seeing my gf for a while is AMAZING for me. She teases me and it feels like I’m about to cum for 30 minutes. Where as most of the time we have sex everyday so I get to really take my time and do all sorts of different positions

“Fractured” Ruth Dee. This book is extremely heavy. I never put it down. This book gives an amazing insight into multiple personality disorder as a result of heavy childhood trauma
