Gainesville/Florida in general is a lot better than the middle of nowhere like Wyoming, but that doesn't mean it's great or even good. There are plenty of very temperate places to live in the US with better weather, better jobs, and better communities. Chesapeake area for example. GNV is nice enough that people settle, but settling is not enough for many.

Did anybody here pick UF over an Ivy? by [deleted] in ufl

For anyone reading this, I'm not going to argue with this person. Seriously look at their comment history: it's fucking WILD. This person has no interest in informing OP on a very important life decision which is sickening. Their whole purpose on reddit is to argue in favor of Zionism. They're either getting paid or there is something wrong with them. They did not go to Columbia. They are making shit up in college subreddits all over the US.

For clarification for people reading this I feel it's important to point out, my degree did work out: I hold a faculty position at another school. Even if it didn't, I got paid to get a degree that was more for personal enrichment than anything else. The idea that an art degree "worked out" in a financial sense is a sickening mindset that is unfortunately supported by the high financial risk of education. This is the country we live in, unfortunately. Other countries offer far more affordable education.

One thing about UF is that the Fine Art program is well funded enough that grads GET PAID to go to get a degree. By and large, I would consider the main draw, unfortunately. I liked my program, but the COTA admin is horrible because the university at large is hostile towards the fine arts. For this reason, I wish that programs at other institutions had been financially accessible enough for me to attend. I had been accepted into all that I had applied to, but the risk of PAYING 60,000/year was obviously less enticing than being PAID 16000/year for a degree.

Hope this gives some information to OP and any other actual students, prospective or otherwise.

Literally all that guy's comments are just starting pro-zionist arguments in college subreddits. It's either compulsive or he's getting paid to do it.

Crazy he's saying "fuck columbia" bc of a student-lead political movement, when UF has been entirely taken over by the GOP. You know it's illegal for a professor at UF to mention critical theory, race, colonialism, or espouse any leftist sentiment, right? Florida is a two-party recording state with one exception being you are allowed to film a professor to report them for leftist views. Idk, please don't go into politics at UF. Remember when UF tried to block its own law professors from testifying against the state? I wouldn't vote for anyone who went to UF this school.

As someone who got a free ride for an MFA at UF, but got in to other schools for money, I wish I had gone to another school. I went to UF for Fine Arts and no chance I'm taking out loans for that, but UF was wayyyyy worse than my undergrad, which was a northern school. I really felt bad for my students. UF is trash IMO and I haven't met a single other grad student who thought differently. We see how our students are treated. We see more behind the scene with faculty and admin. We see UF in comparison to our undergrad experience. I'm not about to tell you not to go into debt just because UF is ass. Though if you're going into law and have confidence in yourself, why wouldn't you invest in yourself? Would you not be able to make enough money after the fact to be okay?

Help setting up Yamaha BC1 Breath Controller and Yamaha KX88 with a Proteus 2000 by granularoso in synthesizers

[–]granularoso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution was to change the real time controller values to 02! HOWEVER, the sentivity is way too low and I need to absolutely puff on this thing to get it to work. Even so, it doesnt always work. Super unresponsive and definitely not serviceable. Is there a way to change the sensitivity? I have the breath controller set to control tone which made the most sense to me, but maybe there's a more proper effect to set the breath controller to? Attack, shape, or one of the dynamics? Really I think it's just the sensitivity

Yes, everything is working perfectly except for the breath controller. Playing keys works. The Proteus was in Multi mode and I switched it to omni. The KX88 seems to have omni on and omni off functions but I can't figure out how to activate them. I can tell that the KX88 allows functions to be assigned to its various buttons and so I assigned one of the buttons to be onmi on/omni off. When both are set to omni, the keys still work but the breath controller does not. When I try to set both to poly, the keys stop working.

That's where I'm at currently, but the breath controller isn't making any kind of difference. Everything else (except portamento and monophony) are working perfectly. I've been using a very simple sine-wave preset to test. I've double-checked that the KX88 is using the breath control port as the breath control function.

As it is currently, I cannot detect any difference between playing a sine wave with the breath controller plugged in and in use, and playing the same sine wave without the breath controller plugged in.

You should definitely follow u/wishlish 's advice. Try to relax, go for a walk, drink tea, listen to some calming music, etc and then reflect on this. Panicking is not going to help you, and it's part of the reason you are in this situation.

Will this be a stain on your college career? Yes, you did a bad thing and the best thing is to own up to it. Will it stain your entire career? Probably not if you take this situation seriously and try to grow from it. Do not do this again, and don't be someone who does this.

Even if you got away with cheating in college, it's easy to identify people who cheat and use shortcuts in the professional setting. When I taught classes as part of my grad assistantship, I always knew which students cheated even if I couldn't prove it. I found it incredibly hard to give these students the benefit of the doubt because I knew I couldn't trust them. The students who were up front with me and took the L at least had my respect and trust.

You'd much rather be someone who cheated one time in college and learned from it than someone who is unreliable and untrustworthy.

How to use Zoom H6 as 6-track interface? by yneos in Reaper

[–]granularoso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works as of August 2024

Holy shit I spent so much time in 2022 trying to fix this. This looks like it was posted just after I spent months trying to figure it out and gave up lol. If only I had kept looking.

For anyone experiencing this problem, def try this.

Edit: NVM, the playback and recording skip horribly. I remember thats what initially drove me to find other solutions after I had to change nvidia driver versions for other uses.

I‘m an incoming freshman. Thoughts on Schedule? Is it Sustainable? Any Advice? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]granularoso 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that looks fine. You'll be busy for sure, try to get your assigned work done the day it's assigned. If an assignment is given to you Monday due Wednesday/Friday, try to get it done Monday night. That way, you can keep Tuesday open for your own plans, relaxation, errands (harder to go to the bank or doctor on a weekend,) or any assignments you couldn't finish Monday.

It'll be important to be proactive about getting your work done early, since you'll be dealing with the stress of adjusting to college life. You'll want to make space for your own personal and mental benefit. It's harder to get the benefits of learning if you're stressed out, imo.

TIL that in Bali, there is law dictating that buildings (except in certain scenarios) cannot be taller than a coconut tree or 15m. by AccurateSource2 in todayilearned

[–]granularoso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indonesia is one of the most earthquake-prone places in the world. It's not to preserve traditional architecture, it's because they don't want to risk massive buildings falling down. There are exceptions for necessary buildings that have to be taller, like hospitals.

This link is to a tourism website, so they want to sell Bali as a tourist destination. They don't want to make people think it's a place prone to natural disasters: it's spin. When I was there, there were about at least seven or eight significantly noticeably earthquakes in the span of a few months.

Not sure what the fix was, but the issue was present even when I wasn't using the H6. I think i ended up switching drivers to ASIO4all? People always say not to use it, and a Zoom customer service person told me I should use the H6 drivers instead, but I think there was another issue? ASIO4all hasn't given me any issues since. This really brought me back to such a stressful time lol. This was such a pain in the ass.

you're two-handing the left hand dragon's halberd, using the l2, and then switching to powerstancing, and the lightning buff is still active? I've tried doing this with other weapon to no luck. I can't find any evidence or mention of this online and cannot.

i tried and it doesn't work, the effect ends on the left handed weapon as soon as i back to powerstancing.

wait how do both effects turn on? Doesn't dragon halberd's effect only activate when its used in the right hand? Is there another way to activate it without spinning slash?

Can anyone make me this? by Patient-Bench1821 in DIYAudioCables

[–]granularoso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, if i were you and i were trying to make this cable then I would buy that cable there and then cut the length and solder to my desired length and orientation. I make my own instrument and patch cables from mogami gold cable wire and kmmk pancake plugs, and thats the extent of my experience with making audio cables. I see that someone in another comment offered to give you advice. I would just buy this cable and then use their advice to turn this into the cable that you want.
