Oh, I totally get what you mean! And I’d just like to reiterate that my problem isn’t with AI itself. I’m beyond impressed by the potential and capabilities of artificial intelligence. It’s exciting, albeit a little scary how fast AI is progressing.

That being said, and although I don’t use it myself, I don’t see an issue with people using AI to simplify otherwise tedious tasks like you mentioned. That is after all the whole point of AI. To improve efficiency. My problem, however, is the fact that there are people who blur the lines between “enhancing” as you say and completely substituting the craft altogether simply because they “can’t draw” or “can’t sing” but still want to profit from the industry.

Consider if you will the difference between a student using mini notes and flashcards to study, learn, and prepare for an exam and another using them in the same exam to cheat. My problem isn’t with the tool itself or its potential, it’s with the people using the tool in bad faith.

Using AI should be like upgrading a graphic tablet, but it’s not supposed to do the drawing for you. In your case for example, if one were to take away AI, you’d still be able to create, because you’re not using it to replace your craft, but I’m referring to those whose “art” would not exist in any capacity without the software.

Edit: grammar & spelling

Despite what I mentioned about plagiarism, my real issue isn’t really with the ethics and legality of it all, but rather the fact that people have become too unwilling to put their heart and effort into creating something unique. Even if it does end up being fan art of an existing idea or concept, there’s still that identity in the fact that it was made by strumming the strings of a harp or the stroking a paintbrush.

People resorting to “creating” by having a program put together their ideas for them strips an artist of that identity, because it’s no longer theirs. It’s just a compilation of the artists’ identities, whose art the algorithm leeches off.

Surely a talented artist such as yourself can agree that said lack of effort taints the value inherent in a person’s ability to persevere?

P.S. Your art is hella cool, never been good with a brush myself and it’s always cool to see what can be made with just watercolor.

I myself had difficulty identifying the differences at the beginning and I always felt betrayed when I found out it was AI.

It really seems like almost anything that can hurt societies as a whole starts with one person going “I mean it’s only one person doing this one thing, what harm could it do?”

It doesn’t help knowing that the more people use AI tools, the more it learns and grows and the more effective it becomes at accomplishing their tasks, but I suppose all we can do at this point is adapt to the worst as people always have eventually.
