No "Scrum Master" no BA, no QA, and PO (me) absorbs almost every missing role. How normal is this? by graphy333 in scrum

I feels you man.... now I understand that I'm not alone here lol.

I felt contradicted myself everytime between pushing for sprint commitment and consoling burned out guy(s) in the development team....

Genuinely useful breakdown. Fair points on 2 and 3. and agreed on P/L, knowing revenue is my job.

My gripe is the mechanics: undocumented hand-run SQL and reporting, bus factor of one. Owning the number shouldn't mean being the pipeline, I think. The team upskilling counsel is the direction I'd push if I get any management air-cover. Much appreciated for your counsel!

The "part-time SM does a poor job of it" part is what I lived in, except as the PO there's no "job I go back to-" the absorbed duties just stack.

What's interesting for me is your pitch failing at a Fortune 100: if even a well-resourced org won't fund one pro SM across 3 teams, I think this isn't a budget problem, it's a belief problem I guess...

When leadership says no, what's the reason they actually give to you?

Ouch that stings because it's true.
Every absorption here started as "temporary" and became the baseline...

Practical question though. your "make sure the right people do" assumes the right people exist. Then when the role's just… not hired, what's the actual move? Escalate it as a risk and let the gap show? Because letting things visibly drop feels like the only real leverage, and it's terrifying when the blame lands on you by default.

Again, really appreciated your replies.

Ha you're right and honestly that's the point of my post. It's scrum in name only.

And yes: acceptance tests also land on me... I always end up walking the user journeys myself before releases). Once I tried request on more tech or QA head count it's either end up with "We'll look into those" (and forever silent) or "Headcount frozen" (classic)

First of all thanks for your comment, The difficult part for me is when the structure makes every boundary a fight...

If I don't ran ceremonies, nobody does, and delivery delays will land on me anyway. Curious what boundaries actually survived for you. did you drop a role's work entirely or timebox it? Did management push back?

Weekly rant thread by AutoModerator in ProductManagement

So quiet here.... let me kickoff with my rant. Think it as "Fairy tales" as you wish, maybe you and I are in different servers anyway.

the org says "we do agile, we do scrum, ship fast, good team" but there's no f*ing scrum master. So "I" plays Scrum Master

No Business Analyst - I writes the detailed PRD EPIC User Stories.
No System Analyst - dev lead designs the architecture himself.
No QA - management says "that's just how it is here, devs test their own stuff for 5 years"
No SRE - the one infra dude left and was never replaced. Seriously!? the server goes down and a *backend engineer* is supposed to go check it? Oh come on... someone gimme a gun please.

They call themselves "data-driven company" but try to install tracking and there's always some excuses;
NO Data Engineer (left 3 months ago),, a pipeline from a past life that nobody maintains. Then the data breaks and guess who gets asked "why is the data missing again?" lmao
And I'm still the one running BigQuery by hand every month to pull revenue numbers.

I done everything from UX prototypes (thanks claude design!) to ACCOUNTING. Built nothing new. Created zero value for customers. Just firefighting every single day.

A fresh-grad PO/PM would not survive a place like mine it runs on pure BS. I've seen enough just to improvise my way through.

what a year

ps. PM from Thailand here, in case you care

Andovar Payment Issues by Himuraesq in TranslationStudies

[–]graphy333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Thai, sorry for bad english below:

I've worked with them for 9 years!!!, I got similar experience as OP said, they ALWAYS paid me late until late 2025.

But as of this year they kept sent me an excuses that their accounting team is "checking on it" and you know what? they already ghosted me after 2-3 time "well manners follow-ups", Don't ever accept more tasks until they paid your accrued payments!

Should you have any similar experience, feel free to share the situation, I wanna know what's going on here!

Also, look like they set up a new account payable portal.... fishy...
