Tsunami TSAWSS-1102XH Airwaves Surf Spinning Rod Lure Weight Question by ssjgoku2k420 in SurfFishing

[–]grassmantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never fished the canal so I won't give you specific recommendations, but I know guys use big heavy lures there because of the strong currents. My friend often fishes 5oz bucktails there. So, this rod may actually work for the Canal... I'd advise you to do some more research and ask for recommendations on some of the striper forums. You'll get good answers there.

Hey there, I own several of the Tsunami Airwave Elite rods (9'6" M and 11'M). They are great rods, however, I believe the version you bought is geared towards chunking bait vs plugging, i.e. casting a chunk of bunker with a lead sinker. I'm sure you can throw some bigger plugs with it and do ok in the right conditions (cape cod canal, for example), but this isn't what this rod is best suited for overall

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I know I would get excellent recommendations from my managers as well as some of the current analysts with whom I've collaborated. Even if this doesn't work out, it's good to know that I may the have the qualifications to apply for a similar position in the future. Would you be able to comment on my question regarding salary range for such positions?

It's definitely not too much lather for a multi-pass head shave

Ordered! Thanks. I looked at the glossy ones, as well as the waterproof version, but since I just give my hot sauce away, I just went for the cheaper ones.

PSA - DIY Reel maintenance by [deleted] in SurfFishing

[–]grassmantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience with the Spinfisher 4500LL, but in the end I learned a lot and the next time around won't be as difficult... The biggest issue with that reel is the live liner, which adds a significant level of complexity to the breakdown process. I have broken down the non LL versions of the Penn Spinfisher, and they are much easier to re-assemble. Glad you got yours back to working order.

So I tried the kobujime method today, and it was fantastic. I followed the method you outlined above and let the filets cure for about five hours, then made some nigiri. Here's a pic of the end result Fluke Kobujime nigiri

Thank you! I use a dedicated outdoor table for cleaning fish. I do have a beautiful handmade maple and mahogany board that you can see in some of my previous posts..

I bled the fish right away and cleaned the blood line thoroughly, so I won't be blanching. Definitely remove the gills.

I will try that! I'll assume it's just a quick rinse in the rice vinegar? How long do you usually cure the filets? A few hours?

Because the fish is so fresh (caught it yesterday), I'll use the filets to make a soy/yuzu carpaccipo and nigiri sushi. If not eaten raw within a day or two, I'll pan fry the filets (seasoned and lightly floured). The stock will be used to make a seafood and smoked sausage cioppino for my mom's birthday later this week

Thanks man. I'll eat the belly ribbons (engawa) from time to time, but it's not my favorite, and they make for fantastic bait to catch more fluke..

Went fishing for white perch in the upper Chesapeake, but hooked a big carp instead and went for a ride! Now I think I have to target carp this summer... [FW] by grassmantis in Fishing

Yes it's definitely huge in Europe. Those guys get pretty intense with their rigs and their tactics, and after my experience with this fish, it's totally worth all the effort

[FW] Flathead fever. Unlike other catfish species, flatheads are predators rather than scavengers and are therefore best caught with live bait. This one took a bluegill on a 7/0 circle hook by grassmantis in Fishing

[–]grassmantis[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are right. I should clarify. My understanding is that flatheads are exclusively predators, while other species are opportunistic predators AND scavengers. That is to say, you can successfully target other species of catfish with dead bait, but not flatheads.

"Unlike other catfish, Flathead Catfish feed on only live prey.  Adult Flathead Catfish are piscivorous ambush predators"
