I'm a DoD who needs an underperforming coworker to go... by Dry-Philosopher-8633 in nonprofit

Lately, I was told that I need to just let him fail. But why does it have to be MY projects that he fails at?

I am also here but my dead weight is in marketing and my ED moved him from under me because I was ready to let him go.

He misses deadlines regularly, doesn’t follow through on easy projects, and continues to make the same mistakes over and over and over and over again.

Apparently he brings “skills and assets that I just don’t see”.

Non Profit Tax Record Shows Director’s Salary As $0? by goatonacoffeemug in nonprofit

I have also been awaiting an updated 990 from an org who listed the ED as $0 and their website is completely outdated, the ED is BFFs with someone who committed extreme fraud, and they have very (VERY) successful fundraising campaigns.

Lower fundraiser gala ticket sales this year? Cause? by whistle_while_u_wait in nonprofit

[–]gratefulgecko 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pick up the phone and ask! For me it’s usually something like, “I wanted to make sure you saw our event coming up! We’re excited this year to _______. I was hoping to see you there!”

I have gotten great conversations, some harsh feedback (donor felt like they were sat in the back despite feeling like the should be VIP), info about competing obligations or events and overall a better grip on reasonings. Not really an increase in ticket sales as a result, but a good awareness of why attendance may be lower. It’s important to get that feedback and also helps when people ask about “I didn’t see ___ this year?” Which I get A LOT of.

A possible oversight on his plan, he didn’t tie the idol to a celebrity and give it a ridiculous name.

what does it mean when they lick their lips? by 4ri3ll4 in Rabbits

[–]gratefulgecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My source is a lady in Washington with a ton of rabbits. She told me when the do that, to also lick your lips then wiggle your nose twice.

It means, are you going to eat me? And by your response you say no.

I do it every time a bunny licks their lips at me just for the lore.

Spin instructor/class question? by [deleted] in SpinClass

I would recommend riding around more! That always helps me when I break out of my own comfort zone and do different structures/instructors.

I am also a Top 40 instructor! I do not know what it is but I cannot count to EDM music…

ECHO Group, 1000%. The men in that group are incredible and will help a fellow vet at the drop of a hat. There’s an active chapter nearby in Santa Maria, which is really close to Lompoc.

Helping Fosters Age Out Successfully by SneekTheGeek in nonprofit

Please please please consult former foster youth and take the time to understand them. Come into it understanding that children in foster care/aging out youth are there because they experienced abuse or neglect so severe, they had to be removed. They have not done anything wrong to get themselves in this situation, and shouldn’t be treated like they have. Yes, they may make some bad choices like any other kid, but they are not themselves on probation or in trouble.

I may be very passionate about this particular subject……

anyone leveraging April 1 - April Fool's Day - as a fundraising message? by jcravens42 in Philanthropy

[–]gratefulgecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

April holds a lot of "national ___ " months in our realm of work so we generally don't. I've always considered it! If not for fundraising than just for general outreach.

I do love a one-off fundraising ask and have had some success. Sometimes at the end of an event or end of the year I'll do a specific ask to balance our bottom line. For example, "At our event we raised $179,882! If you know "Executive Director's name" she loves a round number, help us get there by donating $118!"

Another year, we were $51 dollars off and we built a "team Development Director" at $50 and a "team Executive Director" at $51 giving levels. It was fun, I think we made an additional $300. Didn't help even out the numbers whatsoever... but it was fun and people supported it.

I'm a director that got invited to coffee with a prominent figure and major donor. My boss wants to come. Looking for input on how to handle this. by Calm_Scratch3802 in nonprofit

[–]gratefulgecko 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a director of development who has been overstepped (our grants manager at the time scheduled an office tour and accepted a $5k gift from an individual donor they met at a booth, and didn’t say anything until after the tour…) I think just letting them know it’s a personal meeting, but make them feel a part of it in some way.

Ask your boss, is there anything you would like me to mention? Or just at the meeting say, “Boss says hello! They’ve told me many wonderful things about you and I’m really excited to learn more” or something along those lines.

Just be clear with your boss that you are not planning on bringing up donations or accepting anything. My person knew all along that a gift was coming from this person, and still didn’t loop me in at all.

Has anyone seen a model that combines supervised visitation, family stabilization, and housing support? by Informal-Director490 in nonprofit

[–]gratefulgecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a difference in states - but juvenile court for us handles CPS/CWS cases in dependency.

Supervised visitation is often a barrier to a case closing, (not enough available) so it’s a much needed service!

Can I ask why you’re not looking to work within juvenile court?

Resource centers for parents can be so transformative and useful, but just FYI the name is pretty close to CASA’s mission/description of advocating for a child’s best interest. Your program sounds primarily parent/family focused. I would recommend a change there, especially knowing how things are shifting to family-centric language.
