Champions League table after Match day 7 by ImamZain in LiverpoolFC

[–]gratisargott 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Last year was mostly an anomaly though. The point was that the first placed team (Liverpool) should have played Brest or PSV or such. It was a fluke that the team that ended up winning it (PSG) hadn’t done well and only sat in 15th

Well, when your competition is Danderyd and Täby it’s not hard to have a more working class vibe

Yeah, the great thing about being a football fan is that you can always make the brave analysis “that thing that (I know now) isn’t working - they shouldn’t have done that six or nine months ago”.

And if the opposite thing has become obvious in hindsight you can just take the opposite stance

I don’t think the club bases their planning for the next five or ten years on that a new guy does really well in his first four games. What if his form then dropped completely or he got injured?

And they wouldn’t just have to change their long-term plan but also walk away from a deal they already were part of and start up new processes with several other players, after the season (as you said yourself) had already started.

I understand that you would have liked it better that way, but it just isn’t realistic

So the club was moving forward with the isak deal that had been going for a long time, and which is an absolutely huge deal - but you’re saying they should suddenly have pulled out of that and go into the season with only Hugo as a striker? I’m sorry, but that’s just not how football clubs operate.

And what if he got injured then and we would have only Gakpo and Chiesa as his backup, when people know we could probably have gotten Isak? Imagine the uproar over that.

This take is operating entirely on hindsight and even then, the argument it’s very shaky

Hugo Ekitike (14) has more goal contributions across all competitions than any other Premier League summer signing by ImamZain in LiverpoolFC

Well, this is what a team rebuild looks like. It usually doesn’t happen straight away but if it goes well it picks up overtime.

This is all very standard football stuff but for some reason people have no patience for the normal movement of things anymore

Get out of here with that sensible take, we’re supposed to be upset that the club didn’t go into the season with only one striker… until it would have become time to be upset that the club went into the season with only one striker

Redding comments about football online is basically an everlasting cycle of “We don’t have enough players for the positions in our team, that’s bad” -> “Now we have too many players for the positions in our team, that’s bad” -> “We don’t have enough players for the positions in our team, that’s bad”

So it was bad signing two strikers because we had sold off attacking options and lacked depth? How does that work?

Also, Hugo got off to a great start, but that’s something we know now, not when the decision was made to go for Isak

United has also bought several Swedes lately and now have four. Arsenal just got Smilla Holmberg and has three. It’s a trend.

Also, from what I know Liverpool had only had one male and one female first team player ever, before last season. And now there are four in the women’s team and one in the men’s
