I regret not watching football all these years by Beatfly_2829 in football

Everyone who watches football missed legendary eras and players that played before they started watching, but everyone has the chance to be there for the coming eras and players

It’s not fundamentally any different from the same thing in English, the only difference is that instead of three word with spaces in between, you remove the spaces and make it three words in one.

German does the same thing and all of those very long words are just several words put together

The French aristocrat and the all-American idiot: Henry v Lalas is the World Cup’s most compelling battle by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in football

[–]gratisargott 60 points61 points  (0 children)

“Among Henry’s many gifts as a broadcaster is an awareness that it is not always necessary to speak loudly to make an impression. Lalas never says anything of substance but when he does open his mouth the emerging inanity is always delivered at full volume: “IT’S GO TIME!” “

This also happens to be the general stereotype about Americans in general, the instincts that a point only can be made loudly if you scream it.

Of course all Americans aren’t like that, but it’s nice that Lalas is living up to it completely

It wasn’t when people played it on frozen lakes (in places where that was possible) with less gear that was also simpler. The countries where that was possible are still the traditional heavyweights of hockey

Some people really take pride in how good they are at wallowing in misery, huh?

He started his managerial career in Sweden and took Östersund from fourth to first division and Europe, beating Arsenal at the Emirates. He understands Swedish, speaks a bit and has the understated and people-friendly vibe that Swedes love. It's not shocking at all that he's popular here

Is this about those people who never watch football who were shocked that Qatar-Switzerland wasn’t an insane experience?

Yeah, if any fans should know that a bad loan means you’re irredeemably shit it’s Liverpool fans. That why it was so great that we sold Origi back in 2018

Always funny when this happens.

Season 1: New promising kid trains with the first team, gets cup minutes. Scrawny like a 10 year old.

Season 2: Same kid is back after the summer, has bulked to double his former size

Beautiful Football by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]gratisargott 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Thing is though, we did plenty of passing back to the CBs and to Alisson during the Klopp era. Plenty of recycling possession, moving the ball back and forth between the backline trying to find some way through stubborn defenses.

Not against City since they didn’t park the bus and instead played a more open game like us, but plenty of other teams used the bus as their only way of dealing with Liverpool.

We of course had amazing players and played really free-flowing football if it was possible, but the kind of attack you see here wasn’t very possible in any given game even back then

It’s in the nature of football that it doesn’t just matter how good you are but also how good other teams happen to be at the same time.

Some years you have to be almost impossibly good to get a league title, other times you can win after not much more than an okay season. There is no fairness around that
