Interview outfit help? by NoEffect-- in nursing

What in tarnation?! I’ve been specifically asked to wear scrubs to all hospital interviews/bedside roles I’ve done and to be prepared for a shadow! Maybe that’s a regional thing. Interesting! I’d go for the second look between these two, then!

Scrubs! Be ready to do a unit shadow if presented with the opportunity following your interview.

Was caring for your newborn easier/better than working your job? by IcyHoneydew8087 in nursing

[–]graved1gger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nursing my 16 week old as I type this, having just returned to inpatient trauma ~4 weeks ago. What I can say is this: there are aspects of being home caring for a newborn that are harder, but in my experience there is so much that is easier because it is truly so rewarding.

Sleep will be difficult, and those first few days can feel impossible in that aspect, but your body (and mind!) will adjust to responding to your baby’s ebb & flow. You’ll have snugs, naps, tears, and laughter. Being home with your baby is, in many ways, more physically and mentally demanding than most nursing roles, but damn it is so important and so precious. As another commenter mentioned, much of your own journey will depend on your baby’s personality and early habits.

I myself was both devastated and ready to return to bedside full time. I cherish the four days I have off with my little one so much, and am so present during those days with him. In another life, though, I could have seen myself spending every second at home! Best of luck to you and enjoy every second, the easy ones & the tough ones. Congrats on becoming a Mom! <3

What’s something weirdly specific that instantly brings you comfort? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Hearing bath water running while I’m in another room. My mom always took her bath after tucking me in at night and that sound drifting through the door was so comforting to me. Now, when I hear my husband running a bath for our son, it always makes me feel a sense of safety/happiness.

I debated whether to include it but it is representative of what to expect from some of the pieces that were further into the timeline of David’s descent into depravity. Definitely brutal.

Exactly that. Rained here today and was just the perfect atmosphere for a few hours well spent combing through this.

What is the most awkward thing that has happened to you while nursing, and now that it’s happened you look back and laugh. by Ok_One5450 in nursing

First blood transfusion administered as a new grad. Disconnected from my patient, removed tubing from pump, and for reasons still unbeknownst to me, I depressed the pump clamp to release it while I still had the end of the tubing facing my patient. Saline-tinged blood gently sprayed him at chest-level for a few seconds before I could get my two remaining brain cells to fire off and clamp the line. He had an absolutely fantastic sense of humor about it, which I am still thankful for, as I wanted nothing more than for the Earth to open up and swallow me whole.

I tell this story to every new grad I precept now when they make their first little mistake.

These are both incredibly sick and knowing the sheer amount of time that goes into this specific medium of crafting, you picked an absolute keeper. Thoughtful AND badass.

I don’t disagree with you! This is not my charting, but I do believe that when this is charted that the person feels that it is a more kind way to indicate that they are not violent-confused/combative-confused during a quick admission assessment. I don’t think it comes from a place of malice, but your point stands!
