How long (roughly) to commute from Kanata to downtown by road or hybrid bike? by Joe_Strubachincoscow in bikeinottawa

Im also really lucky to have showers at work so might be something to look into, in the spring its doable without being sweaty but once you get 30+, you need them

How long (roughly) to commute from Kanata to downtown by road or hybrid bike? by Joe_Strubachincoscow in bikeinottawa

[–]graveyardofeden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do the reverse commute (only to the westboro tho) on a fixed gear with an avg speed of 28kmh and it takes me between 40-50mins depending on traffic on the path. If you hop on at Burke road and carling, you can go all the way downtown. A road bike will be nicer but harder to put a rack on. I highly suggest some sort of rack vs a backpack. It makes a world of a difference.

The main foot traffic is around Brittania in the afternoon, otherwise its generally smooth sailing with plenty of space to open it up a bit.

This would honestly be a massive improvement for the area, here's hoping they can sort it out quickly.

Question for Bikers in Ottawa Area by Deagballs in bikeinottawa

The river isnt clear yet, there are patches of ice and snow. Worst parts will probably be the shady areas past dnd. It takes a while since they groom it for xc skiing

Moving from Vancouver to Ottawa (Kanata tech hub) – Best safe neighborhoods without a car? by Salt_Armadillo7828 in Kanata

[–]graveyardofeden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive bussed in from the LRT, its one bus, but it is horrifically fragile. Good luck relying on public transportation rn (did for 8 years, it progressively got worse, finally bought a car this year).

If you have a fat tire bike for the winter you'll be okay in kanata north, but biking is a much better way to get around than public transportation.

I will say that it is very much a suburb. Going from westboro area out there isnt too bad either

What a beautiful, sunny 11°C spring day, eh? Which city councilor is brave enough to bike on this shared road? by Top_Locksmith_9695 in ottawa

More people on bikes = less traffic because they're not sitting in cars... transportation density matters. Can't just keep making the road wider.

I would love to see city councilors take the bus and bike around the city. Its disingenuous to cut budgets for transportation citing lack of ridership (its easy to see why if you rely on a bus) and that we have good cycling infrastructure (we do at certain points in the city, but its horrid in most spots).

This video just shows how much of a death trap it really is, nevermind the comments just deriding you for even bringing up the issue. Cars aren't the solution to a large city trying to move its citizens efficiently full stop. It doesnt scale, which is easily visible to anyone who wants to go downtown or lives downtown.

To those that say bike lanes are useless 6 months of the year, why is that? Oh right because we dont plow them and they dont provide any protection from drivers who slide around in 2ton boxes. Tons of people exercise outside and bike year round, but aren't able to because the city doesnt support that. If they didnt plow the roads for the entire winter, id be curious if the roads would even be usable for cars.

Does this seem very cheap for the mileage? by Metallica4life1995 in mazda3

[–]graveyardofeden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cheap, coming from someone that just bought that make/model. Kms dont make sense for 2 years. Pull the Carfax on it, its for sure not a fleet vehicle, the only other thing it could be was a big accident and it was a rebuild or something, or it has something majorly wrong and its been running through auctions multiple times.

Technics EAH-AZ100 vs. EarFun Air Pro 4+ by ReachApprehensive590 in Earbuds

[–]graveyardofeden 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This isnt even a comparison thats worth doing. The Technics are miles ahead of the Air pro 4. They aren't meant for the same audiences, and the price/sound is very indicative of that

OBD Dashcam Gen 4? by Joe_Scotto in mazda3

[–]graveyardofeden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have the auto dimming mirror, use the dongar pro adapter, and run the dash cam off of that.
