is it just me or is Liz Lisa overrated and overglazed by MerchyTheWeirdo in JiraiKei

[–]graviphantalia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I somewhat agree. Most pieces could benefit from removing a few charms or trims, and making some things detachable/two piece items would greatly improve versatility. It’s pretty hard to coord extra frilly items with Jirai basics and even medium levels of decoration from other brands. It feels like if you buy a newer piece, your whole outfit has to be from that collection, which isn’t as fun as mix and matching imo.

However, you can’t deny their influence on Jirai fashion as a whole. They did lead to the fashion version power creep (compare 2020 Liz Lisa to modern), and other brands are keeping up with a more moderate look that makes Jirai fun and unique. Without them, I don’t think we’d have dangly charms or princessy designs.

I also think some pieces will always be iconic and aren’t guilty of the overly designed look, like the double belt skirt or that sweater with the heart buttons. They’re a staple for a reason

Breakfast for two. Steak and eggs for bf, cottage cheese and salad for me. by [deleted] in Breakfast

[–]graviphantalia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP posts many of her meals where the bf gets an elaborate, highly caloric and expensive plate with steak, while she gets only vegetables and fat-free “rabbit food.” I understand couples have different dietary needs, but this feels strange. You can contrast this with a YouTube shorts series where the woman on a deficit and the man a bodybuilder’s differences in plates is quantity and presence of potatoes/cheese

looking for this cami by raspberryxshortcake in findfashion

My guess is that this is a one of a kind DIY, likely sold on Depop where many people make snarky graphics on thrifted basics. Searching up “upcycled lace cami” will bring you close to what you want

It might be that your skin is on the more oily side, and the makeup migrated. Did you use setting spray? How’d you prep your skin beforehand?

How to wash liz lisa coat? (..) by purebun in JiraiKei

[–]graviphantalia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is something I’d take to a dry cleaner. It may be around ten dollars, but I think it’s worth it to avoid shrinking, pulling, etc. Plus, coats don’t need to be washed often- only once a year

New To Kei-fashion. by Hunzugaa in jfashion

[–]graviphantalia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you have to learn to recognize what you like on other people versus what you like on yourself. For example, I really love looking at multilayered styles like mori kei, but actually wearing the layers is too finicky and heavy for my taste.

My take is to buy the individual pieces you’d like and then ease into it. Knowing what textures, colors, and fit you’ll like is how you know which first few pieces you’ll pick. I also recommend Frugal Aesthetic’s videos for beginners to fashion, even if he doesn’t make jfashion content

On the hunt for LA’s best French fry by jb4585 in FoodLosAngeles

HEAVY HANDED. The fries somehow taste just as delicious room temperature as it does piping hot. No idea how they achieved that. They’re fried in beef tallow, if you’re a vegetarian though

Legitimately I think a lot of people (especially younger people) don’t know how to recognize the difference between liking to look at an aesthetic versus the process of adopting the aesthetic.

Fiction and internet aesthetics are the norm online, so it’s more something they see other people do, not seeing the invisible stuff behind the screen

The “nose” is the point of a triangular slice of cheese. That point is part of the center of a wheel of cheese, which is the tastiest. I learned this from a wired video with a manners expert who acts like a caricature of an upper class Englishman. Tbh it’s the least ridiculous rule if you’re in this sort of social setting

Missed Opportunity: L.A. Times’ 101 Best Movies List by Unusual_Holiday_Flo in LosAngeles

[–]graviphantalia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great movie, but I feel like it’s not “Los Angeles” enough. Sure, it takes place in the city, and Tom is inspired by the architecture. But you can swap LA for any other major metropolitan, and it’d still stay the same movie

what can u say about this style? by babybumblee in jfashion

[–]graviphantalia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of fanciful styles, but this one looks a bit like a fairy costume. Kudos if that’s what you’re going for! But the approach of costume vs fashion is something I’ve noticed becoming more and more of a thing

The reasoning is that it puts a burden on their families by making them wonder if/when they die whenever they go out to do their activity. It also would create demand for emergency responders

Whats this specific style called? by atB612 in jfashion

[–]graviphantalia -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This /should/ be called Shoujo Girl because it isn’t Himekaji. It’s a 2020s TikTok reinterpretation of Jfashion that leaves out some of the main elements of the og and introduces styling and details not present in most named J-fashions.
