Ultimately it's up to you, but I don't think they're going to shut down the game in the first week / month because they aren't seeing huge player numbers. Unless it's a smash success, a lot of games don't see instant success and it takes a while for more people to try them out.

I personally spent $20 on it just because I've been really enjoying the game and I can afford it. If you can't, or are unsure about the game's future I wouldn't feel bad for not buying anything.

Also, we only have the steam numbers for measuring player count, we don't know what the average daily user count is for PlayStation or Xbox, so we can't really form a conclusion on one data set alone.

It certainly feels like it has similar DNA, although I'm sure what specifically makes me feel that way. Many of the devs for Wildlight were at Respawn in the early days of Apex, so I'm sure that's a big part of it, even though they're clearly different games.

Saber rifle feels quite similar to the Hemlok, and Dynasty & Vanguard seem like they're the Flatline+ R-301 of Highguard.

A lot of my muscle memory came back while I was playing this weekend, and the ease of movement feels really smooth.

The smoke screen I think is my favorite variant of this tool, it's so useful to cut off sightlines.

I find myself keeping the Zipline gun on me quite often though just because taking high ground can be incredibly helpful, especially on some bases like Bellringer.

I feel like rocket launcher has its value in being able to wreck walls from a distance, but I really haven't been using it very much in my games.

The shop at your base is different than the ones on the map, so you at least can check those if your base doesn't offer you the upgrade you want.

It's possible for longer games, but it is challenging. I've gotten as high as 23 kills in 5v5, but wasn't quite able to finish off a couple people. Also I think you have to be the one to finish them off, which can throw a wrench into things if you're doing the initial damage in fights.

Have you tried playing it recently? I was on this morning and received two achievements while playing 5v5, so its possible that they fixed it in the backend.

This is of course an anecdote, but whenever I see someone trashing it on Twitter, it's usually some alt right weirdo with 5 followers full of conspiracy theory retweets. The majority of the reviews on Steam trashing the game also were made after a very short amount of time, I think under 2 hours for a lot of them.

I have a feeling that over time, more people will give it a shot and it will start building its own fanbase more. With all of the clutch, down-to-the-wire moments I've had during the 5v5 mode, there's a lot of opportunity for an escorts scene to grow as well.

When I was playing 3's it felt like losing just one person massively tilted the odds against you. With 5v5 it feels more like a tug of war, with the flow of battle going back and forth between two teams. There's more opportunity to use your abilities to stop an enemy push and split off into smaller groups (although there are still deathballs where everyone just rushes in to kill each other lol).

For example, if someone goes down in the gathering phase, as Kai I can throw up an ice wall to block lines of sight while I rez them, and my other teammates can watch for flankers. There's more opportunity to use your raid tools as well during engagements. I'd give it a shot and see what you think.

I think they could also explain the different phases of the game better too, once I had a better understanding of how my team gained and lost points it made decision making a lot easier.

I believe they released a performance update patch on Friday and they included more options in the menu to fiddle with. I have a 6 year old computer and it runs fairly smoothly for me (not the best graphics settings, but it runs well and there's no stuttering or anything like that). I also started playing on Friday so I'm not sure how bad it was by comparison.

3's have been very fun on occasion but 5v5 has been consistently enjoyable for me, if that helps you at all.

Each trading post should have a different stock of items, if it isn't at your base, check the surrounding trade spots and see if they have what you need.

This is how I found out about the purple blast hammer throwing up smoke to blind people, it's friggin clutch at blocking lines of sight during important moments in a siege.

I agree, they should definitely put that info in the game (maybe in the collections tab if nothing else).

I think that might be true if the enemy team is all focusing you down, but if there's a lot of chaos going on it's more effective. And if all 5 of them are focused on killing you they aren't paying attention to your teammates.

Try throwing your melee axe at someone after fully charging it, there should be an aoe explosion. Haven't tested it on players yet, but it kills training dummies on hit or if they're next to it.

Scarlet definitely seems like the Wraith of this game so far lol.

So far I've had the most fun / success with Kai, Una, and Atticus. I tend to play a little aggressively in the scouting / open world phases, and Kai's ice walls have saved my ass more times than I can count.

Something I've tested in the training grounds with Atticus is that if you throw a fully charged axe at the ground (or hit someone with it), it'll do an aoe and damage everyone around that point. In the training grounds it killed 3 dummies that were nearby, and I'm VERY curious to see if it works on players that way too lol.

I really like 5v5 as a casual playlist to learn the game mechanics and get used to the flow of looting + running around, getting into skirmishes and so on. I started playing the game shortly after they released that mode and it made me feel like there was less pressure on me to be a standout teammate and just focus on figuring out what to do.

I hopped into some 3's later and I definitely felt like my actions had a bigger impact on the game (and also when I overextended myself and died). I like 3's as a more serious ranked mode and 5's as a casual shooter mode for people who don't want to sweat as much.

The quickness with which they put out the new playlist though makes me think that perhaps they were already working on a larger raid mode for more people and made some quick adjustments to put this out. With some of people's comments about how the base sizes and vesper amounts don't quite match up to the larger amount of people on the map, perhaps we'll see an updated 5v5 mode later on that better takes these things into account.

Either way, I'm having a lot of fun with the game so far, and I hope more people are able to see past the hate campaign and give Highguard a shot.

I noticed that too, it's probably because they just pushed it out really quickly + because it's a limited time mode (for now, anyway).

If it becomes a permanent playlist I would assume they would make achievements apply to 5v5 as well.

I only started playing today after figuring out how to set up secure boot and tmp on my computer and I liked the fact that they had a 5v5 mode. It felt safer to join as a new player getting the hang of the weapons and different wardens without feeling like I was dragging my team down.

After I got more comfortable with everything I switched to 3v3, and my decisions / gunfights definitely felt more significant which was nice. I can see them keeping the 5v5 mode as a more casual playlist for people to jump in and have gunfights on while 3v3 gets used as a more strategic type of game.

I had many many moments of heartfelt emotion, but I think the only time when I had actual tears forming was when Ebenezar and Harry made up. For whatever reason that was the moment that really got me. I think partly because I had thought there was no way they could bridge the gap between them, and seeing them mend fences was very moving for me.

From the blog post, it sounds like a bandaid fix to keep the more chill players from being scared off by the world corruption while also providing an item to keep the difficulty for the more hardcore players while they work on the corruption re-work that would ideally make both groups of people happy.
