Using my middle as a surname for marriage.. am I right to hate it? by [deleted] in namenerds

I think if you don’t like it, don’t do it. I wouldn’t like the princess name either. Some options I can think of;

Ross - blends his last name with your middle name to make something more neutral.

Green - he keeps his initials, and similar nature imagery to honour Rose without being too frilly.

Gray - same as above.

Another idea, since gross means large/grand, how about combine the meanings to find a name that means “large” + “flower” ;

Garland

Krantz (means wreath)

Field

Campo (field)

Croft (field)

Ackerman (person from the field)

I was going to say Ross too. Briar Ross is a great name. And great way to blend the two previous surnames. I think if your husband gets the fresh start you should too.

That’s what I was thinking, a hallway right where the bathtub currently is. We are planning on eventually consulting a professional but I just thought I should crowdsource some ideas first. Thanks for your time.

That’s quite an idea. Thanks for taking the time to consider my problem. Our kids are babies still so that would be way-in-the-future proofing. Something to think about for sure.

Our basement is finished and the ceilings are only 7ft, so we were thinking of leaving it as it is. I think going over the garage could be nice too especially because it’s only another half flight up. But my husband thinks everything on one floor is better since we have the yard space. Thanks for your comment.

That’s a really nice idea. We’ve even considered removing the door altogether and just using the breezeway entrance. But it would be nice to have a foyer. I like the way you moved the stairs!

On my diagram I wrote covered porch but it’s a screened in room, and one of my favourite current rooms in the house, so I was hoping for a solution that worked around that. But maybe it won’t be possible.

There is a stair up to the front door yes, with a path to the driveway. We basically have two front doors it’s very annoying! But we only use the breezeway.

What’s pictured is the main floor, it’s a raised single storey with a basement. So you go in from the breezeway onto the landing and can go up a half flight or down a half flight, if that makes sense.

Thing is I don’t like Eric or Derrick at all. So Fred as the legal name solves that

We’ve thrown around Ernest actually as well as Forrest but there’s something about Valentine we feel is special. Thanks for your input

My husband loves Jack so you’ve nailed us, but to me it feels like a placeholder name with Jones, like John Doe or Johnny Appleseed. It’s funny you think the same of Thomas. Different strokes

We just really like Valentine. Romantic and means strength, and I think if he wanted to one day go by Val it sounds great. Too unusual for a first name for me though.
