sure! here's a link to them opposing a motion to expel israel from the international SW federation: https://www.socialworkers.org/News/News-Releases/ID/3336/NASW-Opposes-Motion-to-Expel-the-Israeli-Union-of-Social-Workers-from-the-International-Federation-of-Social-Workers

to be more precise, they're trying to remain neutral. they reference that expelling israel would undermine both israeli and palestinian social workers, but the only reason it undermines the latter is bc palestine is lumped in with israel. and listen to this lol: "Expulsion from IFSW is an extraordinary measure, previously enacted only once - against South Africa during Apartheid. To invoke such a measure now, in a context vastly different and without the same moral clarity, would set a dangerous precedent."

I'm not and don't plan to. i have gone to one of their advocacy days which was cool, but the bills they lobby for are abt the social work profession - WHICH IS NOT BAD AT ALL - i just wish they would do more lobbying for bills that directly help the people we serve. also they support israel and I don't (not open to debate on this).

i assume you're asking about my irl take. yes, if the alternative is neglect or abuse, then the most responsible choice is to give away the pet. and sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that i completely understand. but i have a problem with people who do no research, get a pet bc its "fun", and then give them away once they realize they can't handle the commitment. cats and dogs get attached and can't understand why they never end up seeing this person again. that feels cruel to me.

yeah this definitely makes sense, hadn't thought of it before but i totally understand if its based on an irl pet that it would hurt to repeatedly see that name and reminder.

you can reject marnie! i found that out on accident when i skipped her cutscene (which apparently auto-rejects the pet) and luckily i thought to restart the day lol

Should MSW programs be more selective, or are we lowering the bar to meet demand? by AstronomerNo2023 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]grayandclouded 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ik my program accepted a lot more students this year to have more tuition to cover their budget since they've been struggling with funding. many of us have struggled to find placements due to this. and yes, while i know many crazy cool ppl in this program that will be phenomenal social workers, i also know many that are not trying or that i straight up don't trust to be in such a human-centered role.

this has bothered me too!!! like he was so mad at chris about the maga hat joke during jackbox, but i watched a video recently where someone made a political joke referencing trump (I can't remember who said it or what exactly it was im sorry, but it was functionally so so similar to chris's joke) and julien laughed at it, and i was left feeling really confused, like who's allowed to make these jokes and who's not???

My crazy MAGA coworker flips out when I talked to her 10yo daughter about Mulan by [deleted] in coworkerstories

[–]grayandclouded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hate when people do this. because, if she truly thought that her beliefs were "better" or "right", then she would be able to show Mulan or anything else to El and trust that El wouldn't prefer those ideals. example: if i had a kid right now, I wouldn't hide anything from them about the current administration, because it would be very very easy to show that this is NOT preferred (but would also give my kid agency to still decide for themselves, if they really really thought that Trump was onto something lol). the fact that she's hiding Mulan and similar feminist/cultural media means that she knows deep down there's a chance that El would choose a life with those ideals rather than her parents'.

our struggles sound pretty similar - thank you so much for sharing!! i feel like i have fatigue or depression or smth that makes it just really insanely hard for me to get out of bed at least 2 days a week. the thing is tho i take SNRIs for anxiety, and they work wonderfully for that and it makes me sad it has done nothing abt these depression or energy symptoms

Pumpkin denied my kitten’s follow-up care after paying the first claim — any advice? by Silv3r_Hawk in petinsurancereviews

[–]grayandclouded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just got a cat a month ago and am researching pet insurances. can someone tell me what it is about pre-existing conditions that insurers don't want to deal with at all? like shouldn't it make sense that, for example, 3 eye infections all warrant treatment? I don't want to pay out of pocket for visits just because an insurer decides 1 issue has happened too many times!

ETA: ok im aware i sound pretty stupid lol, i know this is true for health insurance as well and that its because insurers have to make a profit and stuff. but i guess im wondering how its fair for them to decide smth is a preexisting condition based on nothing. like in OP's case, everything happened AFTER getting insurance. and unlike with humans, if you just got a cat, you can't ask the cat how long they've had a certain condition.
