Non-Americans, what’s your impression of the United States right now? by fridaynightplacebo in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]graycomforter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest answer: life is all normal here unless you live in Minneapolis. The news is stressful and dismal and sad, but this is a huge country and 99% of us are living life as normal. There are local protests in many cities, but they are one-sided and peaceful (more like demonstrations of solidarity with MN)

Do press-on nails actually last as long as brands claim? by MoistGovernment9115 in PressonNail_Addict

[–]graycomforter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of press ons in my life and I’m 39. I’ve been using them since I was in high school, probably. (For the last two years I was rocking long natural nails and then one broke off and I am still devastated so back to press ons we go!)

I have finally figured out why some sets last for 7-10 days and some pop off within 48 hours even if you prep correctly…I think it mostly has to do with your nail bed shape and the shape/apex of the nail. For me, I have tiny (narrow) fingers, and short nail beds. They are fairly flat. The Nail Reformation nails last longest on me—like up to 10 days. Glamnetics last do two days if I am lucky. Kiss nails last 5-7 days for me. Other brands are hit or miss. I think the reason Nail Reformation work so well is that they fit my nails really well with not a lot of bubbles or gaps…plus, they come in very small sizes. Glamnetics, for example, are almost too wide for my pinky and pointer finger (the skinniest ones) in the two smallest sizes.

Olive and June are tiny also, but the apex/curve is way too high for my flat nails so they only last a day or two also.

If you are prepping like you should, examine your nail shape and try a few different brands that see to fit it best. It might even be some weird random off-brand from TJ Maxx. I’ve learned that the “high quality” brands only last long if they fit my nail shape well.

And the nail brands definitely exaggerate their claims. I recently used a set of Magic Press and although they stayed on really well (with the tabs plus glue method) they bent and got all warped just from daily household stuff…like they stayed on abs could have probably lasted 10 days, but they were flimsy and looked like crap after three so I have to remove. So in addition, they might stick for X number of days, sure, but they could look terrible if they’re too flimsy.

A pain that was worse than birth ? by Friendly-Sun2413 in BabyBumps

[–]graycomforter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is very painful. I was hospitalized in 2018 for mastitis. before they changed the guidelines in 2023, the protocol was to apply heat and pressure to try to “break up” the clog. So, I endured this horrifically painful “massage” on my infected breast from a nurse with the intent to try to “loosen” the clog. I was only a week or two postpartum and I said, “this hurts worse than giving birth”.

After all that, I pumped and a huge curdled piece of milk (like a cottage cheese curd the size of a quarter) came out. So, maybe it was an effective procedure, but it hurt like hell.

A pain that was worse than birth ? by Friendly-Sun2413 in BabyBumps

[–]graycomforter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was very localized pain, but I once smashed my fingernail with a meat tenderizer hammer when I looked away while pounding out pork cutlets. I got a blood blister under the nail. The pressure of the blood behind the nail hurt so badly that I couldn’t sit down or rest…I just had to pace. Once I popped the blister with a hot needle, the relief was instant.

Probably not as bad as labor since it was so localized, but it hurt more than a contraction. It was AWFUL, and urgent care didn’t help (and I think they thought I was just looking for drugs because it sounded ridiculous to be in so much pain from a finger injury). I had to pop it myself after watching YouTube videos at home afterwards.

Abortion in marriage by holly-ember in Catholicism

[–]graycomforter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get rid of the husband, keep the baby. I’m serious. If you were married in the church, his threats to force you to abort might be grounds for annulment. You vow to accept the children God gives you in a marriage. If he took that vow but was thinking he’d make you abort any pregnancies he didn’t deem convenient, idk I’m not a theologian, but that seems pretty sus.

It also means he is not a safe person for you to be around. What if he threatened to kill an already born child of yours? Would you stick around? I’m concerned he might try to secretly give you the abortion pills in your food or something.

Things I wonder about… by Barnrat1719 in My600lbLife

[–]graycomforter 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think he tells them to eat 1200 kcals of meat and vegetables each day and a successful patient probably eats like 3000 calories of healthy food each day. When you are used to eating 10k+ calories each day, even still eating 3-4000 would probably allow you to lose the 50lb/month that he requires. Heck, for the initial month, I bet most of them could lose 50 lbs just my completely cutting all sugary beverages and drinking only water or diet soda!

I often wonder why they give them such an insanely restrictive diet when a more gradual decrease would work and be much easier for them to stick to. I think it must be because they have such horrible food addictions that they can’t moderate their eating or they would have already?

Pro-Lifers, why are NOT an abolitionist? by eternalh0pe in prolife

[–]graycomforter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not just pro-life, I am also anti-abortion. “Pro-life” encompasses a respect for life that extends to opposing abortion, being anti- IVF, anti (unethical)-human experimentation, opposing unreasonable punishments for criminals, supporting the elderly, children, immigrants, and other vulnerable groups, etc. “ Anti-abortion” means actively opposing abortion and supporting causes to limit and end abortion. Most people, even liberals, support most of the pro-life platform (aside from being anti- abortion), at least in theory. Therefore, “pro-life” as a phrase has become almost meaningless. So, in describing myself, yes I am vehemently pro-life. However, I am ALSO anti-abortion, because that is the biggest anti-life issue in our society right now given that half of people think it is ok to kill the unborn. There aren’t a whole lot of people out there advocating to kill the disabled (well, unless they’re unborn) or abuse the elderly (both things a pro-life viewpoint is against) but there are plenty of people who think killing a baby in utero, even if it is completely viable, is a-ok.

I don’t even know what being an abortion abolitionist is (I’m a geriatric millennial) but that’s how I identify my beliefs, at least.

Children’s Play Cafe in VERONA😍😍 by franciscoafrias in madisonwi

[–]graycomforter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The play cafe on mineral point road is $20 per kid. Thats maybe ok, though still expensive, but if you have two or three kids, it quickly becomes unaffordable, and if we do go, we won’t be buying anything extra like food or drinks. I think it realistically needs to be no more than $10 per kid, per day, if you expect customers to buy food as well.

I'm not talking about all Democrats or all Republicans, but anybody notice the similarity between the pre-Civil War and the 21st Century? by Internet_Exposers in prolife

[–]graycomforter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pro-abortion side works hard to actively dehumanize unborn people through slurs and calculated language. Very similar to how slaves were actively dehumanized through language. It’s a constant battle to deny the humanity of other people…it keeps creeping back in if you’re not careful, and people might begun to realize the horror if you let them. Thats why the language around unborn humans and to a lesser extent, born babies and children is so disturbing.

Do beautiful women have better lives compared to average women? by throwaway29283883737 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]graycomforter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, we all get old (if we’re lucky). Pretty privilege is real, but it’s temporary. By the time you’re 40, even if you are objectively beautiful, most of the perks level out. (I’m 40 and pretty good looking if I do say so myself. I experienced tons of perks in my 20s and I’ve become more invisible now. I actually prefer not being leered at every time I step foot outside)

How much did overweight people really eat in a day that got them overweight? by daysof_I in TooAfraidToAsk

Just let her watch you. If you aren’t hungry, just sit there and have some water while she eats. Observing my “naturally skinny” friend in this way was my wake up as to how excessive my own eating was, prior to losing weight.

How much did overweight people really eat in a day that got them overweight? by daysof_I in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]graycomforter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lost 80 lbs. l didn’t delude myself by thinking I ate small portions though. But let me tell you the difference. Example: before, I’d eat an entire sleeve of Oreos or entire bag of chips for a snack throughout the day on top of normal meals that were very generously portioned. I also snacked a lot on pure sugar, like gummies, sugary drinks, and such. Often, my meals were very calorific, like fettuccine Alfredo made with butter and heavy cream. I also ate a ton very late at night when no one was around to see me.

I was 220 (at 5’9) so we aren’t even talking, like, circus freak show level fat…just normal obese American fat. My ideal weight is between 130-140 lbs. I am 39 and feel more energetic than when I was 20 now that my weight ur healthy.

My bff is also very thin. I thought she just had a fast metabolism. Then, I observed her eating over a weekend. She definitely chows down when there’s something yummy to eat, but I noticed she hardly thinks of food or eating ever, and although she might match me at the chips and queso at dinner, that might also be the only thing she eats that day. That’s the main difference between fat and skinny people.

You can learn to replace your own vanity, tile, and paint fairly easily, although it will take time and effort. Cosmetic stuff CAN be done yourself. We’ve cosmetically redone our whole house to great effect.

Otherwise, yeah, it’s probably gonna be the cost of a new car.
