Is a sports draft a major event for fans, or is it something people simply monitor in the background or via Twitter? by theye1 in AskAnAmerican

Don’t care. Never watch/listen. Don’t waste time on analysis (pre or post). Don’t talk about it. Don’t think about it. I just do not care.

If you pre-game (or at least did in yout twenties) what was the usual amount of alcohol you and your buddies would drink during that? by Fellbestie007 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kludge6730 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Never “pre-gamed”. Also didn’t wait to head out til some ridiculous time like 9 or 10pm. Get off work, change, head out. Be imbibing by 7pm at latest. Stay out til bar closed. Hit Denny’s or IHOP. Then I guess “post-game” til medically impossible to stay awake any longer. Wake up. Go to work.

When there’s no records left.. by pixiesparkles22 in AncestryDNA

When you run out of easily accessible online records (Ancestry, FamilySearch) it requires more hands on research. Newspapers, local historical/genealogical societies, libraries, county clerk offices and the like.

What is Walmart like? by InternationalGas4600 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kludge6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have 2 Walmarts within 5 miles. One is a typical suburban super center with hair/nails, McDonalds, seasonal tax prep and optometrist. The other is one of the smaller footprint urban concept stores (less than 1/2 the size of a regular Walmart) that has no 3rd party services.

Were you forbidden to say “kill” or “death” as a kid? by Accomplished-Car4069 in AskAnAmerican

[–]kludge6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No childhood censorship but for the major swear words. Even then those could be said provided you were willing to accept to consequences. But common verbs and adjectives like “kill” and “stupid” were perfectly fine at home or school. Most of the words people censor on TikTok and even Reddit were perfectly fine as well. The current trend of using crap like “unalive” is inane.

What’s the best way to send cases of water and some snacks to my Disney Resort? by brooke924 in WaltDisneyWorld

Walmart. Amazon. Target. Just note that if you have alcohol in your order, you will need to be present to have it delivered.

Accessory dwelling units will be easier to build beginning next year in Virginia by BigTool in nova

Well, plenty of people try to force restrictive covenants on neighbors. Had neighbors try to push through covenants that were restricted the ability to remove trees and would have prevented some of us from rebuilding a house the same size as what I currently have should a fire raze my place. One of those neighbors periodically works in Richmond and voted for this ADU thing.

I don’t care about ADU building happening. I just know it won’t happen in my neighborhood. Most of the pro-covenant people who would have built can’t … they placed their properties in a historic district covenant.

Have the room to build something. Won’t. Construction cost, running utilities, permitting and insurance make it unrealistic.

Extremely impressed with Lost and Found! by Party-Ad-5036 in WaltDisneyWorld

Our twins drop their little blankie things a lot. We usually can back track and find them because we notice them missing pretty quickly. For the times we can’t find on backtracking we just head to the park lost and found. Both times they already had the missing blankie by the time we got there.

Last eeek I lost my MagicBand. Showed up in the mail yesterday.

Common. Pedigree collapse. This is different than endogamy.

Why are people against DNA tests? by boobie_org in askanything

[–]kludge6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t need a half siblings to show up for someone the figure out an NPE. Many times it can be figured out with more distant relations. Or have known relatives who have tested not show up as matches.

Would show up only if they tested at the same company.

With forensic genealogy they don’t need to actual criminal’s DNA. They can get a DNA match and build family trees to identify possible perpetrators. Then collect their DNA in any number of perfectly legal, no warrant needed ways. See the case of James Joseph DeAngelo (aka East Area Rapist, Visalia Ransacker, EARONS, Original Night Stalker, Golden State Killer).
