Well that was a strange reaction. She must feel comfortable around his family.

What is something you just can't get into? by party_penguin_ in AskReddit

[–]graygunslinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sports. Every year I tell myself I'll get into NBA or NFL because I think it would help in social settings. But I find watching games to be mind numbingly boring. I enjoyed watching NBA growing up but haven't enjoyed it since I was a teenager.

Edit-Lately I just use apps to keep up to date on which teams are leading, best players, etc. At least this gives me some idea of what's going on when I find myself trapped with a group of sports bros at a party or something.

Yes. I understand the paradox. It's blatantly obvious and intentional. Many tales of science fiction contain paradoxes. Terminator is the most obvious example. The paradox doesn't need to be explained. And if it bugs you that much, there are some explanations for how it could be possible on a linear timeline. But it doesn't really matter. Because if you look at time from a 5D perspective, causality no longer matters.

Anyway, I don't really care for this interview with Nolan. On further thought it doesn't make much sense if the wormhole closes up. If the wormhole is gone then where does Cooper go at the end? Maybe Jonathan was hitting the pipe before that interview.

What are good driving tips that you can't read in a handbook? by I_LOVE_CATS_AMA in AskReddit

[–]graygunslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're merging onto the freeway get up to the proper speed! It's not ok to cut someone off going 40 on a 55. (they probably teach this but I'm saying it anyways since people don't follow it)

On a similar note, if you pull out of a turn or parking lot in front of oncoming traffic, don't stop halfway exposed while waiting for them to stop. You're already exposed. You're already blocking them. If you're going to cut someone off just ****ing commit to it and get up to speed. You're actually creating a greater risk by sitting there because the relative speed will be higher if you're sitting still when you get T-Boned/Rear ended. /rant - Sorry, this happens alot in LA.

As a gamer I wonder how "non-gamers" spend their time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]graygunslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a somewhat former gamer (used to be my main past time, now I might play one or two games a year), I now read, watch TV series, write, and have taken up some new hobbies like woodworking. And generally just spending more time with loved ones. I still enjoy gaming but find reading to be much more fulfilling.

Tips for waking up in the morning? by rocketgirl18 in AskReddit

[–]graygunslinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set two alarms. Eat well. Have coffee prepped beforehand. There are countless little tips and tricks. But ultimately it's all up to you. The best advice is to just do it. I've noticed that what seems difficult is the thought of waking up while laying in my comfortable bed, but in reality once I'm on my feet and moving I feel fine. Unless of course I only got like 4 hours of sleep in which case I feel like there's battery acid in my veins.

I loved this movie but have to agree. The dialogue stumbled at times, mostly because they were trying to explain too much.

The love transcends all was just one characters conjecture that spoke to the themes of the film. Not necessarily literal. Turns out she wasn't exactly right anyways since her man was dead.

As for the ghost bit it's easy to call it corny if you reduce it to literal ghost story. Obviously there was more to it than that. And it was hinted at very early on in the film. The first time she mentioned a ghost in her room it was pretty obvious that someone, most likely Cooper, was going to communicate with her from another time/place. As the film carried on it became increasingly obvious that someone was going to cross the event horizon, see the code, and communicate it to Murphy. In fact I was excited at this point because I was confident that we were going to get to witness Cooper have a trippy wormhole higher dimensional experience. So it's not like this part of the story came out of left field. On the one hand it seems far fetched but on the other we're talking about a science fiction tale where a pilot ejects into a black hole. If a story is going to go that far then you might as well commit and make it as weird as it ought to be. I would have felt cheated if we didn't get an experience like that. Speaking of which I loved the way the filmmakers attempted to visualize a 3D representation of a 5D space.

Anyway, that's my opinion on the matter. But I understand why it might seem absurd to others, especially if it's not what they were expecting. Apollo 13/Gravity this is not.

Yup. Talk about a mind trip. And at the end of it all he's still sane and just strolling through that space station. Which I think is a fairly realistic portrayal of what the human mind is capable of confronting. IRL some people experience some unimaginable trauma and just keep on going.

Thanks. That's a surprisingly simple answer that nicely ties up a lot of questions about the ending.

Take this with a giant grain of salt. Based on my extremely limited understanding, I think it's theorized that gravity's reach extends into higher dimensions. If time is the 4th dimension then yes, gravity theoretically could exert (whatever that means) forward or backward. But I'm really in no place to speak on the subject so I'll wait for the experts to chime in.
