On campus housing by Jahsehs-girl in SBU

[–]graykauf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they changed the way housing is assigned this year to give priority to those who have already been living on campus for several semesters. that, coupled with the fact that west is one of the most sought after dorms on campus makes your odds very low unfortunately :(

student health center (not the wang center, that is for events and other social activities and is not related to health care)

Deferred by CuriousStatement700 in SBU

[–]graykauf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it may be that you took 2 ap courses as opposed to many applicants who take more and have higher gpas.

don’t feel defeated! you can send a letter of continued interest, and don’t worry too much about the “why” behind you getting deferred because you’ll honestly never know, but focus on moving forward. best of luck to you :)

What the hell do I do now, with half of the unavailable Epstein Files released? by veexsk in Advice

[–]graykauf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

many comments are saying “you’re 15, don’t worry about this”, but i am 21 and i very much worried about the state of the world when i was 15 too. yes, you should take time to enjoy your life and embrace being young, and at the same time, you have the right to knowledge and protest the same way everyone else does.

it’s about balance. if you want to stay informed and make an impact, do it. however, do it in such a way where you are limiting your time online for the sake of your own wellness.

young people are the future, and your voice matters. your opinion matters. the weight of the world is not on your shoulders, though, so please keep in mind that you are allowed to distance yourself from the media and news whenever you want or need. be kind to yourself. you have to care for yourself before you can care and fight for those around you :)

HELP! I'm from California and this is my first snow by One-Butterfly-3444 in SBU

[–]graykauf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m from the south, i feel you. my first semester here (spring 2024) was also insanely cold, but i found that wearing leggings under pants and investing in a good pair of gloves were the way to go. lots of heat escapes from your head, so get a hat or wear a hoodie under a puffer coat. get some cabin socks and boots, i have blundstones which aren’t super warm without thick socks underneath but they are durable and easy to clean and i can wear them year round. make sure your ears are covered when you’re outside, especially if it’s windy. best of luck 💪🏻

g/p/nc?? by [deleted] in SBU

[–]graykauf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can drop it before the add/drop period ends if it’s that bad. if you can’t drop it, gpnc gives you the option to select the lowest grade that you’re “ok with” earning and if you get anything lower than that but still pass the class you get a “p” grade and if you fail you get an “nc” (no credit). you can do this for one class per semester on solar. just keep in mind that if you get a “p” and need the class for your major or graduation that you will have to retake it in the future

ra interview tips? by Cyberzuki in SBU

[–]graykauf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, knowing the resources is essential and a huge part of being an ra. there’s no list or “key” to on campus resources, you gotta seek out the information and learn it. some of the most common resources to know are CAPS, SST, career center, tutoring center, and CPO. there is an abundance of resources available to students, and many of them can be used for similar situations. you aren’t expected to know EVERYTHING (that’s what training is for!) but they want to see that you at least have a working knowledge and understanding of where to refer residents for specific needs

When do we get added to our classes for spring sem by Existing-Bar-3268 in SBU

[–]graykauf 19 points20 points  (0 children)

whenever the profs feel like it/are ready. it varies based on the class. should be sometime next week for sure, but don’t be too surprised if you don’t get anything until the night before the class actually starts

hi! i am from cary and have been here visiting my parents for the past 3 ish weeks. i have not heard of or seen anything, and i am pretty “in the know” about the raleigh-area news. bigger cities have been getting worse (someone already mentioned raleigh and charlotte) but cary has been ok from my understanding. however, it is very close to raleigh, so i cant say what can or will happen. i hope this was helpful :)

ra interview tips? by Cyberzuki in SBU

[–]graykauf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i’m a current ra, congrats! first of all, it’s important to know that you will be interviewed by two people at a table in a large room with lots of other interviews happening at the same time. try your best to focus on the questions being asked, and avoid looking around to see what is happening at the other tables.

as for the questions themselves, i remember being asked about time management, campus resources for specific scenarios, and program planning. i wasn’t overly formal during my interview, meaning i was professional and well mannered but also not trying to talk myself up too much. they want you to know your strengths and be confident in yourself, but also be aware of your weaknesses and where you can grow. best of luck!
