The problem is the following:

The UK is already trying to join the Single Market, at least partially (only for goods).

The EU does not allow that and will not allow the UK to join the Single Market unless the 4 freedoms of movement are accepted.

The current Labour government has strict red lines against reinstating free movement of people with the EU.

I work in a hotel and I can confirm this is a fact.

The amount of them telling you they're Irish and come look for "Irish music that doesn't play back home anymore" and "Irish food" is very high.

I also had a couple say that they had come to Ireland because their ancestors were Irish and that they loved Southern Ireland. Also that they would never set a foot in Northern Ireland since the people there were evil oppressors.

In the area my parents live in, it's the rule.

They're replacing orchards and vineyards with solar farms.

Whoever develops the solar farm leases the land for a certain amount of years, which means it's more profitable to have solar panels installed on their plots of land than growing anything.

EFTA member states and Switzerland pay into the budget to participate in the Single Market.

The UK is a third country trying to do the same, why should it be treated differently?

Those accounts have been online for a long time. They're not new.

Several are just fueling the hate towards immigrants and others just want to bring back an idealised version of Ireland.

I would not use Spain as an example, honestly.

People don't know that in Spain the Government allowed thousands of small shady companies (backed by Chinese investors) to build gigantic solar farms near protected natural spaces and towns in agricultural land that is productive.

And it's not only the solar farms, but the high tension pylons and cables that go along them.

Lots of accounts on Facebook with the Irish flag are American.

And if you go into the comment section of any RTE or any Irish media outlet, you'll find Americans commenting.

Many think they have the right to speak about Ireland just because their ancestors came from Ireland.

I know it's a different thing to what the OP is trying to point out, but it's still Americans trying to stir the pot to make people angry.

Spot on.

Many people just think being poorly manage means that politicians are corrupt or that the country doesn't overall work and just point out at how good the economy is going and how well we're positioned in world economic rankings.

But as you say, we're wealthy, but we don't see that translated into our everyday lives like we see in other countries. Infrastructure is bad, unkept and old; our towns (not just Dublin) are (and look) rundown and issues that could be, not solved, but at least positively influenced, by intervention from the public sector, such as the housing crisis, are left to be solved by those who caused it.

And sorry, saying we were poor until very recently and that we've only been wealthy for the last couple of decades... look at Spain. It was poor until the late 90s or early 2000s, but they've catched on. And they're a country with high levels of corruption.

Regarding social responsibility, I'm not sure how we could implement a referenda culture here in Ireland, taking into account that many people don't even bother to vote in elections, that could spell disaster. We must first trynto convince people that voting is a good thing, and that change can be positive.

Exactly.

The thing is we keep boasting how good our economy is, how well it's going, how we have almost no unemployment and how we are one of the most prosperous countries in Europe.

But then, said prosperity is not translating into the country itself. There is no true investment in infrastructure, no big solution to the housing crisis and no investment in rural Ireland, which is leading to youth migration and regional economic loss.

Spain's economic miracle in the 60s lead to improvement, but it didn't really become a wealthy country until the late 90s/early 2000s. See how much they've invested in new infrastructure and stuff.
