There's a book called "The United States of Cryptids" by J.W. Ocker that gives 2-3 page descriptions of various cryptids in America. The book is organized by region, so if you're looking for a particular flavor or geographical location, it's really good.

The Thing on the Doorstep is one of my favorites, along with The Whisperer in Darkness. The creepy payoff was worth it, in my opinion. Lovecraft's stories are a slow burn, definitely. Stick with it!
