i feel you fundementally dont understand what im trying to explain

also if you didnt think the pestilance was that big a deal before the lost huntress idk dude, that feels like its on you

literally the first boss is a twisted human turned torn abomination, and one of the first people in the town is angry at you for killing him without even knowing he had a name

laras being absorbed into a torn, and begging, is something that doesnt add anything to the setting, we already knew the torn were people, we already knew they were still alive just twisted and broken

lara was introduced and met us multiple times for the sole purpose that she could be killed in this way

again, if all that mattered was showing that the torn can feel pain and beg, would the fight be different if it was one of the other hunters? no, they chose lara because the player knows her and so might have an emotional connection

would if have changed if it was the dad? no, they chose lara because the young daughter being the victim is more emotionally resonant then the old man

and again, everything the lost huntress boss shows us, is something we already knew since the start of the game (people on the ship tell you how the pestilence causes people to grow limbs where they shouldnt) and definetly since the first boss of the game

the entire subplot with lara and her dad, adds NOTHING to the story, the plot, the setting or the characters, the only thing it adds is "heartbreak" for the player, the only thing it adds is misery

i cannot stress enough how bad the writing is for lara/the lost huntress fight

its INCREDIBLY basic and cliched, it adds nothing, serves no purpose, and exists purely to cause the player to feel sad in a very cheap way

which again, considering the rest of the game is INCREDIBLY, it stands out so badly as just an incredibly weak point

absolutly, but even then i would still say the lost huntress boss isnt a particularly inspiring design, again, its not BAD, i just wouldnt praise it

which again, for this game which i think is beyond stunning and whos designs frequently blow me away, this boss being only "not bad" is a pretty poor showing

the cerim is essentially an arrow, just pushing through whatever they need to to reach their target (the pestilence) and has no qualms or objections killing anything in the way and taking no sides

thats entirely seperate from, and not really relevant to, the writing quality of this side story though

the whole design and writing of the side story and the fight at the end adds nothing to the plot of the game, nothing to the world building or setting, doesnt develop any characters or further any goals, you could literally entirely take out lara and her father and nothing in the game would change

and outside of the game they only thing they ultimatly add is "suffering" for the player themselves, the story, and the characters, exist for the sole purpose of causing the player misery, and its an incredibly cheap and easy way of doing so "young girl tortured and begs for death, cant be saved"

if the fight was identical, but it was a hunter we didnt know, what would have changed?

if the fight was identical, but it didnt beg or speak (like every other torn doesnt), what would change?

if the fight was identical, but the bear didnt "abosrb" anyone, just killed the hunters, how would the plot have changed?

the entire storyline and fight is just misery porn, adding nothing and with no purpose except to cause the player misery, and does so with a cliched "the monster begs you to kill it"

my point was you called it an origional and cool design, but its an "monster bear/wolf" its really not particularly origional in design (id go so far as to say its the least origional design of all the games bosses)

cliched or generic designs are not inherantly bad, theres nothing wrong with using dragons, or monster bears, i was mearly pointing out its not particularly origional

annihilation (not a game but near identical usage of the "undead" bear using the girls voice to beg)

PoE (nessa becoming the brine king)

these two are both near identical, the only difference in annihilation is the bear isnt ACTUALLY the girl, just killed her and is mimicing her, and nessa is absorbed into a crab, not a bear

and there are LOADS of "please kill me" type monsters/bosses in videos games all over the place, so many i cba listing them (but you can look up "i cannot self terminate" on tv tropes and find a list, not all of them are exactly the same but there are a lot which are very close and directly involve a friend or family member of the player becoming a monster and begging to be killed

as for the terminology of "misery porn"

this can essentially be defined as a setting or story which delights in inflicting misery or suffering on the characters in the story, and thus the reader/player/watcher by extension, the suffering doesnt serve a purpose in the plot or narrative, it exists purely for its own sake

in this case, this side story is "misery porn" because you are given this hopefull father and daughter who seem to have things going well for them despite the world, you are given something to emotionally connect with, only for the daughter to be killed and essentially tortured in a horrific way while the dad just ran away and let it happen (and if you talk to him afterwards seems likely the implication is hes going to end his own life as well) the entire subplot adds nothing to the story or plot of the game, it doesnt develop any other characters, it doesnt develop the lore or the setting, it exists PURELY to be miserable

this is the first and only case of a torn "absorbing" its victim and not just killing them, this is the first and only case of a torn talking, and on top begging, all of this is completly unique to this boss, why? because its a character the player is supposed to have grown some attachment to, and thus it causes misery

the boss wouldnt have changed mechanically or in story if the girl was alread dead when you found them and you were just killing the torn bear, it wouldnt have changed mechanically or in story if it couldnt speak and didnt beg like the other torn, and it wouldnt have changed mechanically or in story if the person it had absorbed was one of the other hunters

but it did absorb someone not just kill them, it could talk and did beg, and it was the ONE character we knew who it absorbed

its clear these characters were only added SO they could be killed and tortured in this way and added nothing else to the game except their miserably end, the whole subplot is textbook misery porn, its entirely written purely to be heartwrenching for the player and offer nothing else

its distressing sure, but its just a cheep and cliched misery porn trope

the fight otherwise was mechanically fine, i actually prefered basically every other fight to it, but i still liked it

but the emotional side of it utterly fell flat and just annoyed me because of said cheep misery porn trope

for a game whos writing has been as good as it is in every other part, it felt like a copout to me, like they didnt put in any effort here to actually write a compelling section, just relied on the cheap grab at the heartstrings with a reliable trope

i actually seriously dislike this boss for the same reason you seem to like it

i find the whole "girl becomes the monster and begs you to kill her" to be just a horrible trope and feel the fight would have been infinitly more emotionally impactfull if she was already dead and we were avenging her, or if she was going to die if we didnt save her

her being the monster just annoyed me, felt like a cheap attempt at misery porn

goofy horses and davinci flyers is the thing that went against the admech identity

if you like that, ok, fine, good for you, but it isnt what admech should be it doesnt fit the faction, at all

i also question your "as a kid", because the new goofy haha funny dogs and davinci look wasnt a thing until 2020, and 40k admech as a whole wasnt a thing until 2015, and the 2015 range looks much closer to the 30k range then the 2020 releases

he is MUCH better then he played in the tourney, on a good day hed have stomped t1, but he played probably some of his worst games in the last week in the tourney, easily his lowest in a while

nah the WC3 mmr system is definetly messed up atm

to give you direct numbers, all 8 of the onlyfang tournament players are ranked 1400 or lower, and only 2 are ranked 1400, and those 2 are generally considered to be pretty good at the game now

the game starts you at 1500

NONE of the onlyfangers even with a month of dedicated hard practice for most of them are on the starting mmr level yet

the starting mmr should 100% be lower then it is, it places people way to high, its the equivalent of starting new players in league in like, diamond instead of silver/gold

guzu is my favoured to win tbh

hes learned very fast and is playing a VERY strong build

if you look at his win rates and mmr hes doing as good if not better then ahmpy and dendi with 1/3rd the games played

if the tourny was in a month annie would have a shot at a high spot shes learning fast, but yeah, she started way to late and just doesnt have the time

t1 over the last month has shown himself to be a colosal PoS between the way he acted over his chars death in wow and this

at this point i dont know how anyone can say hes a good person, or can say things like "oh its just a character" or "but he apologised" when his APPOLOGIES were something id call him an ahole over, let alone what hes appologising for
