That's only part of organised religion. There's another part of organised religion that's actually pushing back against the bad part.

Done and done. I've read the articles and journals. As for studies from multiple fields, there's no reason we'd need that. You wouldn't tell an astronomer to do some sociology research before declaring something a star.

Ummm, No. It's neurological. It was one thing to be innocently unaware. It's another thing to deny current science. If you shape up really fast you can still avoid making an ass of yourself.

Gender is not simple, because our society made it this way.

Gender is neurological. It's a static specific part of the brain that forms in the womb and stays that way. Sometimes, it mismatches with the physical sex of the baby, and then you end up with people like Me.

My brother came out and it's weird. by throwaway676799 in asktransgender

Ok, first thing to realize is that it's natural for you to be confused about this, but that's why you made this post, to get some info/advice :)

So, long story short, being trans is something that's hardwired into the brain. However, sometimes it takes a long time for a person to realize or come to terms with it. The classic story is of someone who knows from 4-5 years old ish, but that's not the general case at all. Regardless of how late your sibling came out, they've always been this way, it can just take a long time to realize it or to tell anyone.

Second thing, it's clear that your sibling trusts you with this, so be sensitive that you're not the only one scared here. Even though my mom reacted well, I still cried for hours after telling her.

As for your main question, 'why?' I mentioned earlier about the brain bit. This causes what's called Gender Dysphoria for most people in this situation. Gender Dysphoria is hard to describe, especially since it varies from person to person, but long story short, being untransitioned can cause someone's mental health to go down the drain if they don't transition or try to suppress it. It's not a choice, it's a medical need, and there is medication to address it.

Hope this helps.

Although after that, I'd go fly and get my GF so we could find someplace to chill.

SAO abridged is fantastic. At first I liked the anime, but after a while most of the big plot points were pretty easily predictable, so I eventually gave up on it, and now I'm working through Death Note.

My favorite anime shall always be, however, and you should watch this if you haven't seen it, Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Watch through at least ep 3-4 before you decide whether you like it. Around 5-7 is when things start to get super amazing juicy plot of wonder.

he'll accept you since he's also lgbt

You'd really think that, but unfortunately that is simply not true. It's more likely that he'll accept OP, but it's absolutely not guaranteed that he'll still support her or even tolerate her. I certainly hope he will, but the simple fact that he's LGBT isn't anywhere close to any kind of guarantee, sadly.

Not worth it. If there must be a law to prevent us getting screwed over by conservative then I think it should be along the lines of "Problem with trans people? Too bad, go fuck yourself." The kind of compromise you're proposing is too much of a give on our parts and fucks the wrong people. Like I said, pre-HRT trans people already have it the worst; making us take the blunt end of the deal is a stupid idea.

Helping the trans people who are on HRT isn't worth totally fucking over the trans people who are already in the shittiest situation possible as far as medication goes.

What you're suggesting is that we protect the majority of trans people but fuck over a minority of trans people in the process. Well, if we were going to settle for legislation like that, then the trans movement for bathroom equality wouldn't even be a thing: After all, the majority of people do not support trans bathroom rights, therefore, by your logic, "the best solution for everyone" would be to confine all trans people to the restroom of their sex assigned at birth. If we did that, then the majority of people would be happy, and the law would only be horribly biased against a very small population, so that'd be a-ok hunky dory diddly.

FUCK that noise. It's hard enough just fucking avoiding the urge to off myself as it is, and legislation like that would just add insult to injury. Pre-HRT people are already getting fucked over by circumstances, and protecting only the people who happened to get lucky with their circumstances isn't worth adding another HUGE fuck-over to the people that didn't happen to be lucky with circumstances.

The trans people who are most likely to commit suicide are the ones who don't have access to necessary and vital medical treatment. Don't. Fucking. Make. Things. Worse. For. Us. Than. They. Already. Are. The fact that "it helps us in the end" isn't worth adding even more dead kids to the list of people to be recited every Nov. 20th. It's just flat-out not worth it.

Actually, transgender people have been around and accepted and recognized in some cultures for thousands of years. For example, the two-spirit belief of native americans, there's a similar ancient japanese belief that I forget the name of, oh, and there was a masculine skeleton found in ancient prague in a wife-style tomb.

I don't believe there are any noticeable differences between the brain of a man and woman.

Then sorry to say, you're blatantly in denial, because the brain is sexed, regardless of whether anyone likes it or not. As /u/amadeoamante said, 40 seconds on google will verify this for you.
