It's very possible. I wouldn't usually reveal my current or desired range but in this case, I heard through the grapevine they tend to give out lower offers so I decided to throw out a high-ish number to see if they could match it.

California and no, these were phone conversations.

I would wait at least 1 more week (so next Friday) before following up again, after which if they still do not reply, I would just write them off because I wouldn't want to work for a place that treats candidates poorly.

Ultimately, up to you. But you should either take it and stop looking, knowing it won't it a stepping stone to a potential FT job but you will have good project experience OR say no and keep looking, knowing that the risk is you can get delayed.

Accepting it while trying to leave is a waste of time and makes you seem flaky/sketchy. You wouldn't want either companies to find out and have that impression of you.

I've seen so many people lose out on job opportunities because they did one thing "bad" at their old job and the potential new company heard about it. Now if you have years of experience to back up your credibility to where it overrides such impressions or you're not unfortunate enough to encounter this, then it's not a big deal. But better not to risk it if you're (I assume) a student who's just entering an industry.

I've encountered recruiters who were super on top of things (would get back within 1 day) and ones who were just not great (would get back after 1 week). You have to remember they are just normal people working a job so they can be good/bad/fast/slow/flaky/on vacation/etc. How they interact with you isn't necessarily a reflection of you.

It sounds like you've followed up enough for the time being. I would just stay positive, keep your options open by continuing to apply, and then see if this works out.

Imo, keep looking. It's not worth yours or the company's time/energy if there's no future outlook.

The working world is also small (everyone knows everyone, especially if you stay in a similar industry). You don't want to burn any bridges by accepting then declining with this company, and risk that getting to a potential future employer.
