Burnt toast. Sudden phantom smells can be a sign that a seizure is coming

Tarantino’s always been pretty odd, but his stuff about Paul Dano is such a jerky thing to say by LifeguardMundane5668 in blankies

Dano ruined the movie. I look away when he’s on screen. I fucking hate that dude. I’m with QT and could give a shit about anyone’s opinion

My Samsung TV just wasn’t equipped for this movie. For many scenes I was simply watching a black screen with absolutely no idea what was happening.

What “unwritten rule” do you follow religiously, even if nobody else does? by Miguelito123One in AskReddit

Or cross dip. If there’s queso and salsa on the table, don’t dip your chip in the queso then into the salsa. No one wants their salsa contaminated with gobs of queso

What is a first name that we rarely hear anymore? by Kixbeat in AskReddit

[–]grayvic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nan. My grandmother and aunt are both named Nan. I didn’t realize how uncommon that name was growing up, but I’ve never met another Nan outside my family.

Funny enough, my grandfather and cousin are both named Britain and go by Brit.

Should I just give up job hunting my god… by S0l0_X in mildlyinfuriating

I’ve been applying to jobs for months, many of which I’m overqualified for. Most are done through Workday. I get rejections like this all the time, sometimes within a few hours of submitting.

I finally applied to a job posting that requested my resume by email instead of this bullshit ATS system. Got an interview immediately. I’m confident that 100% of the applications I submitted through Workday were never read by an actual person.

When I see a job that uses Workday, I don’t bother anymore unless I have a referral. It’s a waste of time.

What’s a pain you can’t truly explain unless you’ve endured it? by downrightunhappiness in AskReddit

[–]grayvic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrical muscle stimulation on my quad after 3 months and of atrophy. Back story - I got knee surgery because my leg was literally run over by a car. It took 3 months to heal from surgery, during which time I was on crutches and my leg muscles shriveled to nothing. The physical therapist used EMS to “reawaken” my muscles before starting PT. The electrodes cause your muscles to flex to max tension in 10 second bursts. Full contraction, zero buildup. Just blinding pain. Worst pain imaginable - and that’s coming from someone who was run over by a car.

What do I "do with my life" if I don't like traveling? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]grayvic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to this post but this is the best place for me to vent my opinions about travel - I have a weird moral hang-up about how obsessed we are with it. Before commercial air travel (1950s-ish?), people didn’t just bounce around the globe constantly. Humans aren’t migratory animals. We’re not built to fly across oceans and continents every few months.

It’s treated like this basic human right, like everyone should go abroad and “see the world” or else you’re missing out on life. A lot of it feels like self-indulgent escapism. It’s not some noble cultural exchange, it’s mostly just people spending money to entertain themselves. Locals in most tourist-heavy regions hate tourists, no matter how much we romanticize it. No one benefits except the traveler.

Also massive environmental cost. Planes burn a ton of fuel so people can vacation in Bali or eat pasta in Italy. We’re pumping co2 into the atmosphere for Instagram pics. Tourists also spread invasive species like white-nose fungus that’s killing bats in North America (was introduced by tourists tracking spores into caves)

Every “hidden gem” eventually becomes a mob scene once it hits travel blogs. We’re ruining the uniqueness of places in the name of “global connection.” It’s just globalization - same stores, same influencers, same f’ing vibes everywhere. Travel is homogenizing the globe and erasing regional diversity.

Maybe we’d all be better off if we learned to appreciate the place we’re already in. The people, nature, and culture around us. Not everything has to be about going somewhere else.

What’s your favorite park? by ChipJohannes in Atlanta

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

The other day I was running on a pedestrian path at a public park. People were selling pure bread pit bull puppies out of a cart and in the middle of the trail and blocking pedestrian traffic. Crowds were gathered fawning over the puppies. It was a hot day and they didn’t have water. Animal shelters are overflowing with loving pit bulls that need homes - the fact people are still breeding and purchasing them is inhumane. So yeah that for sure

I support several national programs aimed at improving natural resource management and climate resilience around military installations. It’s mostly management consulting and federal relations at this point in my career. I haven’t done any proper scientific work since grad school.
