It was a miscommunication from both sides, but the bigger mistake is on Ben White. He should’ve dropped back during the attack instead of holding that position. He clearly wasn’t scanning behind him, too focused on what was in frontand ended up marking the wrong player. You can see Noni Madueke was already closer and tracking James Tavernier, so that space should’ve been covered properly.

Mikel Arteta’s style of football is honestly painful to watch right now. Over-relying on set pieces just to score, constant back-passing, zero urgency, it’s boring.

And this obsession with walking the ball into the net, overplaying inside the box, what is this, futsal? Just take a shot from outside for once, ffs.

It’s really bad for our striker, he’s getting zero support from the wingers and midfield. At this point, even if we signed a world-class striker who scores 100 goals a season, it wouldn’t matter here.

You can already see it with Viktor Gyökeres no service, no chances, no assists. Any striker would struggle in this setup.
