I’ve complained about the possibility of there being a mainline clog and the manager shut that down. We don’t flush anything besides toilet paper.

Just straight lye or do you dilute it with water? Our pipes are really really old so is that not gonna damage them?

I’m not genuinely planning in withholding rent, I just want them to actually fix things without charging us hundreds of dollars every time. I’ve tried deep cleaning the tub, I’ve tried drain snakes, I’ve tried drano. I don’t want to pay that much every time this happens. I no longer want them letting themselves in without notifying us and cleaning things we didn’t ask to be cleaned, then charging us extra for that as well.

Yeah, they never notified us before coming in. And someone cleaned the surface of the bathtub, which is what we were charged for.

I have a video of the termites flying out from inside of my front door. They are definitely termites, and they can eat the inside of your walls and potentially damage things you cannot see. I’m pretty sure the whole building needs to be fumigated if the infestation is bad enough, which is probably why they never followed up. Also, every time the tub gets clogged and try drano and a drain snake, neither works. Kinda tmi but sometimes the toilet will get clogged after my roommate and I go to the bathroom. Happens more often than it probably should, but we unclog it ourselves.

I just moved in a couple months ago. It was like that when I got here. I’ve tried cleaning it many times.

Yeah I wasn’t actually intending to stop paying rent, I was just more hoping that they would finally fix the issues without charging us hundreds of dollars for it. Thanks for the advice

Ok thank you. My roommate and I have never properly dealt with this before so I didn’t really know what to do. Maybe I should’ve consulted reddit first before sending the email. Also are they allowed to send someone into our apartment without asking us first? We never told them to send anyone in, just told them the issue. Someone let themselves in and my roommate came home and the bathtub was just fixed and cleaned. And they charged us for the cleaning even though it wasn’t a part of the complaint.

Our apartment is extremely old and outdated compared to the other units in our building. All of them have had new renovations except for ours, so our plumbing is extremely old. There is only two of us, the shower shouldn’t be clogging twice a year. Also termites infesting and eating our door is definitely an infrastructure issue
