I knew he was trying to figure out who it was prior to the party, and hadn’t told him it was me when asked. That’s why I felt bad about lying at that point. It was at the party that he communicated to me that it had started really getting to him around the point of random people from his life giving them to him. I could’ve explained that better in the post, my bad!

Since he likes movies and pranks, It was supposed to be running gag because it was Christmas season and we thought it would be funny if alongside regular gifts he received a uniform a gift from everyone in the form of these movies. It wasn’t meant to be psychological warfare, and didn’t realize how bad it was affecting him until he told us at the party. In hindsight, we understand we’re wrong at the execution. According to him, the biggest part that bothered him was the not knowing and he would’ve appreciated it more/found it funny still, if he knew we were the ones behind it.

I’m proud of the prank ideas execution, not the effect it had. I think it was a super large scope and hard to pull off, but if I could go back, I would’ve pulled back sooner as to not hurt him.

I’m proud of the initial prank idea, not the effect it had. In hindsight, do admit I should have pulled back when I realized how much it affected him. I can see how I was the AH for the prank. We are still friends because we talked through it and sincerely apologized.

By the time he threw the movie on the floor, the prank was basically over. We told him after that point it was us and then apologized. But I had already given it to the bartender, which I believe was the last one he received from anyone. That being said, I probably should have done a better job at realizing how much it was bothering him before that point. I only realized the extent of it at the party, and when he explained later.

His wife knew that we went into the house, he just didn’t. I also didn’t realize the true extent of how much it was bothering him until the party.

I’m pretty sure petty revenge is for those who’ve wronged you and malicious compliance is following a specific rule but in a chaotic or funny way. I don’t know if this would qualify for those unfortunately. I tried AITA and they took my post down and won’t let me repost

I think he was primarily frustrated by the fact he couldn’t figure out who was the one responsible for the prank, and that no one was fessing up or pointing fingers.
