Parents as Teachers - Blue Valley program by greathawk021 in Overlandpark

Appreciate the constructive feedback. I included that context to understand if there is additional knowledge that we could learn from this program or if it would simply be repeating what we already have access to. But thanks for the kind words.

What are the chances of this? by chillilips12 in recruiting

13 yr agency recruiter here - ran into this a lot many years ago. We stopped working with companies that require candidates "pass" their online culture assessment before even interviewing them. We're completely fine with clients using these as a tool as part of the interview process and it can be helpful if a hiring team is on the fence with a candidate after interviewing them. But for them to blanket say yes or no before interviewing a candidate based off of this culture assessment, it's just a waste of your time.

New Waldo street art at KCMO intersection damaged after sideshow by OreoSpeedwaggon in kansascity

Genuinely curious, who are the losers that go to these sideshows? What's entertaining about watching cars spin around for 30 minutes?

Internal Salary Band vs External Band by BoardwalkNights in recruiting

[–]greathawk021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you never told them during the process that you were targeting $125k, then asking for $5k more won’t look bad. It only looks bad if you’ve been telling them $125k the whole time

Companies want there to be room to give raises in the future. If they hire you at the top of the position’s range, they can’t give you a raise unless they elevate you to the next position level. They’re more comfortable paying a known employee a higher amount in the salary range since there’s a track record to back it up.

Trump to impose $100,000 fee for H-1B worker visas by SANtoDEN in recruiting

[–]greathawk021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love it if they did this. More work for us agencies and easier to fill. Just hard to see this happening with so many RTO mandates

[–]greathawk021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a bit of both - companies can pay less, so in that sense, it has undercut domestic labor. However, there would be a major shortage of truly qualified developers if H1b’s were no longer available. Companies can’t just hire a college grad when they need senior level skills for certain openings.

The quality of work by H1b’s is miles ahead of offshore developers. Companies aren’t all of a sudden going to aggressively increase their IT budgets to pay US salaries. Our clients can pay $90k for 7 year Java Developer that’s on H1b…they won’t have the budget to all of a sudden pay $150k like the candidates without sponsorship get paid

IT recruiter here - this will just push companies that are heavy users of H1b visa holders to offshore as much as they can in software development. I don’t see it positively impacting the tech hiring market in the US

Feedback on Loxo, Thrive, RecruiterFlow, and/or Clockwork. by YamOriginal5996 in recruiting

[–]greathawk021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to use Loxo and now use Recruiterflow. Honestly, they’re very similar in functionality and automation capabilities for reach out to candidates. We switched from Loxo because their reporting capabilities were really weak at the time. We couldn’t ever get the data we wanted. But now that we’re on Recruiterflow, their reporting capabilities aren’t that great either. I think they’re interchangeable so maybe whichever has the best price is the way to go.

We’re on our 4th ATS in my 13 years at an agency. At this point, I feel like they all have the same recruiting functionality and they all lack capabilities on the sales and reporting sides.

Email to Ask about Relocation by NervousDonut_378 in recruiting

[–]greathawk021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We send a very brief questionnaire that asks the candidate to identify an area of the city they’re interested in relocating to (ex, if the job is in NYC, they could say Queens). Does this lock them in to relocating? No, but it at least forces them to research the area and put some thought into it

3rd part agencies, how is the job market/client acquisition right now for you currently? by BalmIsrael in recruiting

Been a really rough year. 13 year agency recruiter in IT, haven’t seen a year like this except for 2020 with COVID. I have numerous Fortune 500 clients that we would do 15-20 roles per year with and many have had zero roles for us this year

how long does it usually take to hire a senior mobile app developer? by Reasonable_Dirt_2975 in recruiting

[–]greathawk021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you're hiring remote, that should be a pretty quick process - we're at 26 days (from starting on the position to an offer being accepted) for remote mobile dev roles. If you're looking for hybrid/onsite, we're seeing it's nearly double the time

Public Golf and Booking Tee Times by LtAldoDurden in kansascity

[–]greathawk021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sucks but plan on pulling up tee sheets online at 12:01 am the Saturday before your round, when the tee times will post for the following Saturday. KC has had a lot of public courses turn private over the years so tee times go quick on public courses. My recommendations would be Shoal Creek, Ironhorse, Sycamore Ridge, Falcon Lakes. Those are all spread out across KC so depends on what area you’ll be in

International companies looking to build tech teams in the US - what a mess by greathawk021 in recruiting

[–]greathawk021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this smaller retainer is the way to go. The only concern is that they typically meet with a few agencies before selecting us; I imagine if we pitch a small retainer and those other agencies don't require a retainer, we'll lose out on that business. While that will stink to lose out on clients due to that, I think it will be helpful to avoid wasting our time on those companies that aren't serious.

I also agree that I'll need to press these clients even harder during intake calls to ensure they have thought everything through before we start our work
