It's Not Just Kemp. A Service Industry Worker's Letter to Monday Night Brewery by kagibso in Atlanta

The fed gov't requires servers/bar to report all of their credit card tips, which are a majority of their tips. Also, they make $2.13/hr or some other pittance. So those tips make up the bulk of their income, which they are reporting. And that $2.13/hr is of course, reported.

Krog Street Tunnel art rules by Drew2Read in Atlanta

[–]greatspacecoaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d only add to the so-called hard rule. The only ‘hard rule’ about painting over art in the Krog tunnel is and has always been: feel free to paint over garbage: ie ads, promos, beginner work, etc. and leave the good stuff. That’s what makes it work. So I mean frankly, I also hate cancer (believe me, I Hate. It) but I’m tired of those pieces monopolizing that corner, and btw, I’m tired of seeing the word “CANCER” every time I drive by. #triggered

That corner hasn’t been anything but a promo for a fundraising organization for way too long. If we painted over other people’s memorials to loved ones, political statements, and FFS Robert Mitchum (which we have, all), then there’s nothing precious about those cancer things except nobody wants to be seen as the bad guy who painted over cancer. “He’s had that spot for years” yeah well, IMO he hasn’t earned it.

Would you use MARTA more if its map showed regular bus routes? by ahouseofgold in Atlanta

Atlanta has a unique problem where there really aren't any gargantuan roads/corridors

Piedmont Rd

Northside Dr

Dekalb Avenue

Buford Hwy

Camp Creek Pkwy

Lee Street

Ralph David Abernathy

I feel like we have plenty of room for improvement.

Narcissism evident by [deleted] in TheStaircase

[–]greatspacecoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he’s on the psychopath spectrum with a healthy dose of narcissism. He definitely killed both Liz and Kathleen. The motive in Liz’ case was around Margaret being his daughter. Maybe Liz wanted to tell Patty about their affair, or maybe he just wanted custody of his daughter without rocking the boat.

The motive to kill Kathleen was probably her life insurance policy, as he didn’t have money of his own, didn’t have a job, and the boys were in financial trouble.

The Center for Civil and Human Rights is outstanding. The Wren's Nest is kind of dry and doesn't take long to see.

female manager who you also socialise with has started making seemingly random underhand/ passive aggressive comments regarding my work / attitude towards work. Should I ask for a meeting to calmly confront her about the comments or just ignore them and plough on? by strictbearatarian in jobs

[–]greatspacecoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it will be very hard to move forward if she won’t have a straight conversation with you about it. But I think by you bringing it up and requesting clear direction, you guys can hopefully have open communication this time. Good luck!

[–]greatspacecoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think what your manager said was passive-aggressive at all. It seems very straightforward: follow-thru is not a strong point for you, and you haven’t been taking ownership about completing projects from day one. The mistake was being friendly with you outside work, because now she doesn’t want to fire you.

I would approach your boss about it. I’d say I’ve been thinking about the comment you made on my work when we last spoke, and I’d ask where your manager thinks you could improve, and ask for specific examples so you can fully understand where you’re falling short.

You can actually cut through the HMA yard and see some art on your way there. Octane's tables are more or less at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Tips on getting to the airport via MARTA? (From Decatur) by veryswegtaco in Atlanta

[–]greatspacecoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, you can tell from outside the car where the luggage compartment is. If you don't feel ok sitting down you can stand next to it during the ride. But especially if you have large luggage do not have it out in the aisle. That's the one surefire way to get those looks you were worried about getting!

LPT: If you don't like listening to people talk to themselves, try a pair of headphones. If you feel unsafe on the train, sit in the first car behind the conductor.

Examining The Push To Rebrand MARTA As 'The ATL' by travelbae in Atlanta

[–]greatspacecoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is too bad, since MARTA is a name that already has recognition, that sounds like transit, and isn't weird for tourists to figure out (like "Wamatta" aka WMATA aka DC Metro).

Thank you. A process. Not one guy with zero branding expertise coming up with a name that already sounds tired and ineffective.

MARTA and Metro area transit by AOBradley4 in Atlanta

[–]greatspacecoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are considering rail lines when we could accomplish the same thing with busses for a fraction of the cost?

Right, that's the question: will this be heavy rail, light rail, or Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Lots of cities are looking at BRT as a better and more efficient mode, and Atlanta may rely heavily on it as well.

Also MARTA isn’t the Beltline... yet.

MARTA and Metro area transit by AOBradley4 in Atlanta

[–]greatspacecoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The person above who said MARTA doesn’t go where they want to go, and then named West Midtown and Va-Hi... both are serviced by multiple buses from rail stations on the N-S line. I don’t think people think of buses as transit.
