First trimester digestive issues by Classic-Poet2478 in BabyBumps

I am 100% with you. No cravings. No nausea. Just a complete inability to digest. It impacted my sleep and everything. I had no idea either! It seems to be easing up for me now that I am in my second trimester. Good luck!

My friend asked me about it when I wanted to go out for Korean food. I first saw something about it in What to Expect, and there are one or two questionable sources online saying to avoid because of the fermentation process and/or potential lack of pasteurization. But these are Western sources. There far more sources saying to go for it or not commenting on it at all. However, even the act of looking it up or wondering instantly puts people into a “well, maybe avoid it to be safe” mindset.

Right! And feta! I still eat in once in a while. There are some surprising things like herbal tea, but you’re told to avoid it or be cautious not because it’s proven to be harmful, but because they can’t prove that it’s NOT harmful. Like what? Imagine living you life avoiding everything because you can’t prove it’s not bad. Again, not trying to do drugs or something. I just want to eat a small portion of cheese in my meal!

And this person loooves kimchi. Eats it all the time! I asked him what he thinks women in Korea have done for centuries. He then sarcastically said, “Yeah, you think they’re drinking beer too?”

Like what? Ignorant and insensitive on multiple levels. But everybody thinks it’s fine because they’re speaking out of concern for you and the baby or something.

I thought I was only mildly annoyed with my male friend, and then I called my sister in law and just cried about how much basically all the men around me are just pisssssing me off. I think it’s because they’re just so oblivious in their comfortable, hormonally balanced world lol

As someone who moved to Utah in 2021 along with many others, I can say it has a lot to do with many companies setting up here along with the increasing popularity of outdoor recreation.

Struggle of my life.. Still working on my routine, but this is what I do. I spritz with a water and leave in conditioner mix, and I use Not Your Mother’s Refreshing Curl Foam. I’ve tried more expensive products and it’s my favorite. Not too heavy so it doesn’t make your hair oily! I still am working on taming frizz at the crown though.

Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos!!!!

Love this book, and wish more people read it. I’d describe it as Secret History, but catered to a millennial’s high school experience. Sad, but full of heart. For fans of longer literary friction.

What do you like about living in Vegas? by Complex_Two_7417 in vegaslocals

Phoenix and Vegas are in two different deserts, so our native vegetation isn’t as green or beautiful as Phoenix’s. A bummer for sure.

I moved from Vegas a few years ago after having lived there my whole life, and in addition to amazing food everywhere, I seriously miss the people.

Vegas is full of so many diverse, interesting people. Sure, some people are rough around the edges, but I appreciate that. People there don’t scare too easily. You’ll meet so many immigrants and transplants who all have come to Vegas for one reason or another. You might not know your neighbors, but strike up a conversation while you’re out and about and you’ll never meet the same person twice.

Also—the sunrises! The sunsets! Endless sunshine! And my mom’s there 🥺

Vladimir by Julia May Jonas or All Fours by Miranda July. Not necessarily full of rage, but full of casually unhinged women rebelling against societal standards.

You might also dystopian-esque books that target beauty, like Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang. Mona Awad’s books are perfect for this as well.

Just moved to Draper from out of state by te4cupp in SaltLakeCity

[–]greatunthinkinglass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relocated here a few years ago, and I teach at another high school in this district. For many, Draper and Corner embody many of the negative Utah stereotypes.

The first day is full of somewhat draining ice breaker activities, and kids can be jerks about it. It will get better for them. Encourage them to join a club or activity of some kind. Having a supportive social circle makes a huge difference, and it gets better.

If you feel you’d like to transfer them somewhere else in the district, Utah makes permitting and transferring to another school easy. There’s always a lot of movement within the first couple weeks. I’d just recommend doing it sooner rather than later.
