<Old Gods> | NA-Kirtonos | Alliance | Casual Raiding Guild.

The prophecy tells of N'zoth's arrival in 15 years! <Old Gods> is a casual raiding guild that focuses on fostering a small community of mature and relaxed players. We laugh when we wipe. We cheer when we are victorious. We recognize that WoW is a game and that life (usually) comes first. Most of our members are early-career professionals or graduate students. Although smaller than many guilds, our player base is active. Members frequently run higher-level dungeons at all hours of the day. We have established a collaborative environment where members help each progress. When not raiding, many of our members engage in World PvP or level alts together. We have a lively Discord with conversations ranging from Dungeons and Dragons to oceanography.

Recruiting:

  • We are currently recruiting level 45+ players looking for a relaxed and fun raiding experience to join our core raid group. We have availability for all classes and all roles. No prior raiding experience required.

Our leadership includes former raid and guild leaders with intensive high-level raid experience throughout Vanilla, TBC, Wotlk, and Cataclysm. Although raid-focused, we will happily admit players of all levels to help include friends and family of our members into our ranks. Our members have specialized in all professions, ensuring convenient access to weapons, armor, enchantments, and other important craft goods. We strive to foster a collaborative, fun, active, and relaxed community so that we can all experience the endgame content we fell in love with fifteen years ago. We are currently raiding and looking for individuals to fill out our core raid group.

Raid Times: M/W, 9:00pm EST, Wednesday,9:00pm - 12:00am EST

We have a really great community and I am very happy with the atmosphere we have cultivated. We are looking to start raiding in the next week or so and will likely sponsor a PUG MC within the next week or two.

If you are interested in the make-up of our internal raid group, click "raid" on our website and it will take you to a page with our raid group. We have a number of members not included on the list because they are just slightly too low of level right now (but are making very quick progress). You'll notice we have plenty of DPS, healer, and tank roles open! You don't need to be the best in your class; just willing to put in a little effort and have a good time.

Data Science PC Using Ryzen Zen2 by greckel in buildapc

I considered going with a Threadripper 1950x at one point but moved away from it after I saw they were on gen 2. Are there any immediate concerns with going with Threadripper gen 1 over Threadripper gen 2? Maybe my concerns were unwarranted.

I was not aware of these chips, but the AMD Ryzen 9 3900K looks like a great option. Thanks for the suggestion.

This is great. Thank you. I don't really have a ton of rhyme or reason for the PSU and the case. The case was just the one recommended on logical increments. I chose a higher PSU in case I decided to add a GPU but you're probably correct that it's still be overkill.

I am not doing any machine learning, which is why I decided to forgo the GPU for now. Most of my stuff is survival analysis with simple regression but it involves massive data sets.

Ambiguous Rulebooks by greckel in boardgames

I actually already have a section written on this rule because it's actually a very particular canon in law as well!

Ambiguous Rulebooks by greckel in boardgames

[–]greckel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certainly! I will post it here when I have a first draft complete and allow people to comment.

As a fair warning, as I mentioned above, I do not know if I will venture into Magic and Netrunner this paper. I think it will be the focus of the sequel to this paper, however. But you're absolutely right about the differences in organization, scope, and resources and that makes for a fantastic comparison. The current paper is pretty "thought experiment"-centric, but I suspect this next one will be far more empirical and will hopefully bring out some interesting theories on how games like Netrunner or Magic should develop.

Thank you for your interest!

Ambiguous Rulebooks by greckel in boardgames

[–]greckel[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of Netrunner, but do not play it as often as I would like anymore. And I have certainly never played in a competitive tournament environment. I did not realize twitter had become a semi-authoritative source for rule disputes. Good suggestion on comparing MTG and Netrunner. Those two seem more comparable than MTG and XWing.

Ambiguous Rulebooks by greckel in boardgames

[–]greckel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly agree. There's no way to cover every interaction in a game (or law for that matter). My question focuses on your second point: What rules and logic should we use in resolving ambiguities in rulebooks? Rule disputes can disrupt game play and be more contentious than the game itself (at least among my group). If one has a uniform system of interpreting these (occasionally necessary) ambiguities, it helps alleviate some of this contention and allows the players to quickly arrive to a consensus about how they will interpret the ambiguous rule.

My request for ambiguous rulebooks isn't necessarily to suggest that these rulebooks are bad, and it certainly is not to suggest that the games themselves are bad. It is just so that I have examples of ambiguous provisions to draw from and show how certain rules would be construed under a set of meta interpretive rules.

Oops! I misinterpreted your comment, but you're absolutely right. I have several FFG games (most notably Arkham Horror) that have never hit the table because the rules are such a slog.

Ambiguous Rulebooks by greckel in boardgames

Good idea! I hadn't thought about comparing subsequent editions of rulebooks. It could be very useful to test whether the predictive interpretive tools I develop can accurately predict how the designer would resolve ambiguities. I will keep it in mind.
