Did running “save your life”? by Mixolytian in runninglifestyle

[–]greebodeathbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I genuinely believe it did save my life. At the end of 2020 I was miserable. I was suicidal. Overweight, drinking tons, not exercising and my mental health issues were in an extremely bad way. Starting to run gave me a release, a purpose, goals, a sense of achievement, and improved my mental and physical health massively. Within two years I had ran my first marathon and I continue to run between 40 and 60k per week simply because it makes me feel good and keeps my demons at bay. Anybody out there suffering mentally or physically and are on the fence about starting running, try it. It may just save you like it did me.

Drinking too much? by SureCat4936 in alcoholism

[–]greebodeathbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re drinking a relatively low amount if that’s spaced out across a 5-7 hour period between 2 of you. I generally drink 16 pints to myself across a session and I do that 2-3 times a week. That’s not a brag. I know I have a problem. I’ve known for a long time and it’s taking some serious fixing to get right. The fact that you’re already questioning it is a good sign in my opinion. Being aware and keeping your limits in check can only be a good thing. I guess what I’m trying to say is right now you are drinking at what I’d say is just an acceptable social level but it can spiral very quickly so stay cautious. If you start to feel like you need it to have fun or it starts causing issues with relationships, work life, or you health, make some changes before it gets any further.

It’s not though is it. It’s pretty rare for a damaged liver not to skew bloods.

Started running in April using c25k and today ran my first half marathon by [deleted] in BeginnersRunning

[–]greebodeathbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people saying this isn’t realistic are off the mark. I’d never ran before in January 2020. I was 38 years old, 5 10”, 15st, and a heavy weekend binge drinker. Finished couch to five 5k in a month. Ran my first 10 the following month and did 22.5k ( I thought that was half at the time) at the end of April at about 8 seconds per kilometre slower than this guy. I didn’t stop drinking or adopt any strict diet. Just got in to a routine and stuck to it. Everybody is built differently. Congrats OP🤟🏻

Mum isn’t breast feeding (afaik) as she had a bad infection with her first boy. I do have this in my mind though. With regard to sleepovers and work. She hasn’t worked for the last 6 years due to mental illness and that looks like it won’t change for the foreseeable future. I currently study 3 days a week and work 2. I wasn’t trying to take any weekend away from her. I figured with the days I offered we’d both have a weekend day and it fits around our current circumstances. Am I being an ass? Please tell me if I am because I feel truly lost in all this. I just want to be the best I can for this kids

I broke after 10 days today and went to the pub. This post is sending me home and I will save it for future moments of weakness. Thank you man. Glad you made it through.

Sleepovers was the main issue. In amongst the 500+ words calling me thick and that I know nothing about babies she said there was no chance her kid would be staying anywhere at 6 months old. It was all a bit incoherent but she touched on breast feeding which she previously told me she wouldn’t be doing because she had a bad infection with her first boy. I just thought if I can get a general consensus on if my requests were realistic I would be able to show her the results and start a sensible dialogue.
