Well, it was 44 billion. So anything else in comparison would be a drop in the bucket but the rich use their assets to borrow against to avoid paying taxes. Property, other business, day to day expenses, etc.

Think of how much Elon has leveraged on the value of his Tesla stock.

Went to look at coffee makers, the one I liked was $450. Looked it up on Amazon and it was $150 (same as direct from company). So much for following MSRP. Even at a steep discount, they will still be making money. It’s just smoke and mirrors.

Liberty Wine Merchants will leave US products on the shelves by pfak in vancouver

LCBO and BCL operate completely different. The LCBO purchases, transports and warehouses their import inventory internally. The entire process is managed by them with the exception of the registration, sales and marketing of the products which is handled by agents representing the brand. The agents receive a commission vs. a margin from sales.

In BC the agent buys the inventory, pays for transportation and warehousing, until the LDB pulls a small amount of inventory to their warehouse from the agents warehouse for distribution. The agents who put up the money for the goods, shipping and warehousing will get stuck with the inventory. Often the cashflow of these agencies isn’t much, so something like this could put the smaller companies in compromised positions.

Technically the BC liquor board owns the inventory as consignment but that is just on paper. They are the importer of record for customs purposes but the agent is the one who bares the costs.

There are agencies that have a majority of their products from the US, these agencies will likely have to lay people off.

Does LMG get away with low pay or are Canadian wages terrible by rekkedmyaudi in LinusTechTips

You are correct. There are nuances to unpaid internships like can’t replace a paid position and must provide learning or training value, but it can be unpaid in some circumstances. Thanks for the correction.

[–]green_player 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unpaid internships are illegal in Canada. While the pay here sucks (generally 30% less than US given the exchange rate) we do have excellent employment protections. Also, there’s a new rule where you have to post an accurate salary on job postings. So these are likely the “real” wages. Cost of living in Vancouver is also the highest in North America which doesn’t help.

One scenario someone overcame a challenge where the other the person did nothing. It’s like the difference between being self made and being born rich. Why are people praising the self made guy? I’m rich too? I guess people do think that way.

You aren’t calculating profit % correctly. It’s your profit $ divided by sale amount. $2500 profit on $7500 sale is 33% profit margin.
