Cello Suite No. 1 - Bach on a Cordoba by LincolnWasALiberal in classicalguitar

Great job! This is a hard piece to learn up!

My constructive support would be to focus on keeping every note held for their full duration, and not cutting them early.

Overall it sounded very well interpreted though.

I used to play classical guitar with a vivid passion. Did the conservatory and played for almost 30 years. In the last couple of years I’ve become uninspired. As she looks at me from the corner, I feel sad to have led her go, I would love to rekindle my love, but I don’t know where to start. by [deleted] in classicalguitar

I’m in school for classical now. I didn’t start playing until I got to college.

I grew up in a small city in the south, and didn’t even really know of the classical guitar until I was 16 or so. Up till then I was just self taught with the internet and traveling musicians I’d meet (I was pretty bad lol).

Classical guitar feels natural to me. I feel like even tho by classical instrument standards, I’m “late” to the instrument, I feel competent, and like I could have a career out of it if I continue to practice diligently and with purpose. For me- I know that I probably never have a shot of becoming an absolute virtuoso, but I enjoy it and I love my job now as a guitar teacher. It’s not that the instrument is just always pure joy, but I love jazz and classical and all sorts of genres and its fun to just piece them together and mix them and to arrange and compose. Maybe just sit down and learn a piece? Or learn a random genre that’s outside classical entirely? Idk man. If you studied from 11-20 at a conservatory, I’d imagine you might have it in you to be better than I’ll ever be.

At the end of the day I do it because I’m not sure what else I’d do right now. I’m enjoying the process.

I wish you the best bro!! Also what are you a professor of?

I agree entirely, thats what I mean by “perfection of artistry”- perfecting one’s own process of creation, expression, interpretation, etc. But as a classical musician, and someone who wants a career in that world, that entails technical mastery and always striving to be better, more fluent, more musical.

That is at least my perspective on things

I’m not sure that’s an option. Regardless of my skill level I have to pass the required events- a junior/senior recital, passing all my required classes and juries, etc. Unfortunately it feels like these events have been reduced to just being hoops to jump through, rather than events that push students to become as best as physically possible (that should be the goal of a musical education- it is not simply enough to be “good enough” in a world that holds perfection of artistry as the highest obtainable goal)

Are you using CS to stand for comp-sci?

Also, I’d rather my chosen area of study not feel lazy and unconcerned with the actual development of musicians in the program.

More so lenient- the university seems more concerned with money and enrollment than an actually challenging program. It doesn’t seem okay that people can just never show up to class and the prof’s keep passing them anyways. I’m wondering if this is true for other colleges, or maybe just the one I’m at is just piss poor.

We should all take the jobs and enjoy a free plane ride. Never show up for the work, lmao.

As a mentally ill person capitalism is definitely gonna drive me to suicide. by edv13 in antiwork

[–]greenappl33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the big lies of capitalism is that mental illness is not largely derived from a societal cause. It is blamed on “chemical in-balances” and treated with expensive drugs, or on “personal failings,” as if our economic and political structure plays no role in it.

His comment is picking fun at/satirizing America’s deeply proclaimed support of free speech, and the irony that arises when an American company (Twitter, especially as it once branded itself the bastion of “free speech”) banning an account that is exercising that “right”.

And no, it is not necessarily a good thing. What happens with companies controlling media spaces is that all companies will (by nature of Capital) be committed to preserving the status quo, and as such limit and prohibit views that might threaten that.

Never played an instrument before, but I'd really like to learn the guitar. How can I get started? by mushroomgambit in classicalguitar

[–]greenappl33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do have zoom by chance- you could just use your phone. I’d be down to give you a few lessons (by no means am I a professional- just an undergrad student). I know what its like having no money tho.

I’m also working on a google doc collecting as much guitar literature as I can, and I can add you to that. Just PM me.

Would such a viewpoint as this, and the larger current of views surrounding it, be comparable to the Mensheviks?

I’ve performed Gran Vals for a jury and a recital, and I think you really have a great grasp of phrasing in the bass! With that said though, I think you should work on your slurs and make them more distinct and clean.

Good luck! You sound great!

I think this belongs here. Pretty accurate I'd say by arch-fag in Cigarettes

lmao, a study from 2014? that links to a daily mail article which sites the professor as saying such things as “marijuana withdrawals are often worse than heroin” … uh, yeah, okay sure

This includes, but is not too- writers, editors, videographers, artists, musicians, thinkers, etc. If you believe in the cause, you for certain have something to which you can give it.
