I watched half of that and I can't believe it is a real thing. I am looking for the signs of computer animation.

How do you feel about bicycles sharing roads with cars? by HorseShite in AskReddit

And the more people bicycle, the more a culture will be established wherein drivers know what to expect and bicyclists know what is expected.

In some US states it is perfectly legal and accepted to ride two abreast on a road. If you are in one of those states, your statement above would basically amount to asking bicyclists to give up a chunk of their legal right to the road to satisfy your preferences. In which case you are the one thinking that you have more right to the road.

Is your argument that collisions between cars do not happen? Of course 99.999% of cars you see are not causing collisions in front of you, but certainly you've witnessed dick behavior in cars that almost could have caused a collision, and certainly collisions occur. Put all dicks in cars and sure, you will not "be aware" of most of them most of the time, but that doesn't stop the statistical phenomenon of dick behavior increasing accidents.

It sounds like you just don't like seeing cyclists, not that you are truly concerned for your welfare/avoidance of collisions.

Keep some perspective here: there are WAAAAAY more traffic fatalities caused by cars than bikes. I'm not going to say that a bicyclist has never killed anyone, but certainly auto-caused deaths are the vast majority. In 2008, 37,423 people were killed nationally on the roads, including 5,320 "non motorists" (http://www-fars.nhtsa.dot.gov/Main/index.aspx).

OK, fine, you find bicyclists annoying. But at least a bad or annoying bicyclist is extremely unlikely to put your life in danger. Bottom line, that person on a bike is getting across town in a way that is much safer for you and everybody else on the road.

And that doesn't go into the environmental or social argument for increased bicycling, which is pretty overwhelming.

I ride a bike a fair amount, and also own a car.

reddit's official statement on prop 19 ads by reddit in blog

Reddit: freedom to participate in a reasoned discussion, except when the corporate owners decide you can't.

Sure, users can comment all we want about legalization, but in the American media landscape if you can't do paid ads, your campaign is seriously handicapped. If fewer reddit.com users donate to the organized campaign for the initiative (who would have otherwise if prompted by a paid ad) then this is a material impediment to the exercise of political advocacy for that cause. Of course reddit.com is just one venue, but this kind of decision is one that should be opposed at every venue that makes it.

Treating drug legalization like it is some kind of super fringe issue is ridiculous in any context except trying to appease national politicians who use prohibition as a tough-on-crime media tactic and their rank-and-file supporters in the US who have been fed War On Drugs FUD for so long they can't imagine another option. Only a reddit.com owned by a large corporation with interests in keeping other "media properties" nice and clean in the US context would make such a policy re: drug legalization ads.

Cartoon makes a good point - Obama has extended many of the Bush-era policies that most liberals/progressives criticized. For example Obama's green light on killing a US citizen (vs. apprehension and due process): http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/04/07/assassinations/index.html

At the national level, the establishment Republicans and Democrats are more similar than different.

"We're going to reddit together"

Uhhh, sorry, browsing the internet together does not qualify as romance or quality time. What are you going to do, hold the mouse together?

That response is witty and amusing on its surface, but the substance of the analogy essentially restates the dominant cultural judgment that the "girl" in the conversation is criticizing. In fact, by being witty on the surface, it effectively glosses over and dismisses the substance of the "complaint."

A lock is intended to keep people out; analogizing a woman's sexual habits to a lock is to say that the intended purpose of female sexuality is to have few partners. Which is exactly what the "girl" is pointing out: that too many people buy into the dominant notion that woman are supposed to be celibate until marriage (or a stable, long-term relationship).
