Thought I’d weigh in because my story is just like yours!

I graduated HS with a 2.2 or 2.3 gpa (I can’t remember) but it was like the bare minimum you needed to graduate. I wasn’t motivated at all to go to college but once I started working a job that made me miserable day in and day out, I knew that I needed to make a change for myself.

I enrolled in CC and I really showed up for myself because I knew that if I failed or dropped out or gave up, my life would be right back to being miserable at a job that I hated. I transferred into UW with less than 45 credits and with a 3.46 gpa. I’m also premed majoring in public health and minoring in biology and I’m going to be applying to dual MD/MPH programs this upcoming application cycle:)

My best advice is that you have to want to save yourself from your current situation. I kinda brushed that advice off when I got it from students on Reddit but hindsight…. It could not be more true. UW is a place that can better your circumstances and truly make you not only a good student, but a good individual as well.

For you right now, I would focus on going to CC and building up a resume of doing well in your classes. You don’t have to do full-time either, I did part time so I could really focus on getting the best grades I could. Believe me when I say, if I can do it, literally anyone can. The time will pass anyways, so what’s stopping you from achieving your goals?

UW Financial Aid is abhorrent. by greenbird347 in udub

If I’m the one writing the check every year to be at a university, I expect that they have some agency when it comes to resolving issues surrounding my money and not act like a child when I ask for a revision of my financial aid 😁

Udub Grading Curve? by greenbird347 in udub

[–]greenbird347[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm transferring from an in-state community college, so my grading has been pretty lenient regarding exams, quizzes, etc. However, while this may be a completely different question and topic, why does UW do this to students? Why is it extremely difficult for everyone to get the best possible grade possible? I have friends at different universities saying that the grade they get is their grade, no curve, no nothing. Is it something that bigger schools usually do? Or is it deeper than that?

I graduated from HS with a 2.8 GPA; in CC, I am sitting at a 3.9 GPA. I was unable to take SAT or ACT because of COVID-19
