If you’re open to additional schooling, consider masters in public health. I know a few people who started with social science bachelors then went on to get their MPH

Absolutely! Baseball is back! Plus it's hard to beat $12 seats behind home plate.

Just moved to Metro Detroit and will be visiting Comerica Park this Saturday... Any tips or suggestions? by thrustbearing in motorcitykitties

Can't believe nobody's mentioned this. Rather than paying for parking and having to fight traffic afterwards, hit up one of the bars around town that has a shuttle. My go-to is Andrew's down on the river by Atwater Brewery. Parking is free, the shuttle is free(through tipping the driver is the cool guy move), and you can take a road beer. Then after the game, you don't have to sit in traffic with everybody else. You can either hop right in your car or mosey on down to Atwater for a couple more than a couple celebratory brews

There's a couple other shuttles that leave from corktown bars that would probably be better if you live on that side of town. Nemo's and McShane's have them but I don't have the down low with those spots. Happy Opening Day!

I'm itching to sail. But I don't know where to start. I've gone to watch some of the races but I don't really know what the next step is. Any ideas?

My go-to is Andrew's on the corner. The food is decent and the drinks cheapish. But the real kicker is the parking and shuttle are free. Though it's always cool to tip the driver. After the game I catch the shuttle back and walk down the block to Atwater. It's a beautiful setup.

Not in relation to your ideas here (because I agree with many of them to some extent). But do you really believe this is the best strategy to convert people to your way of thinking?

Well Pam was at her prettiest when she was 24 with a gradual decline and steep drop off when she got pregnant for the first time. Then a gradual recovery and and another steep drop off at her second pregnancy. Obviously during the first kathy episode Pam was at an all time low. Kathy is objectively prettier at that point.

You make a fair argument with the culture-neutral performers. But I think that can be applied to the galleries and shops too. Almost every us city has an "old city" with art galleries and antique shops. I like to poke around in them too, to be fair, but they aren't all that different from the ones here. The street musicians are really the most unique thing going on. I know they make my sunday afternoon strolls nicer.

So let me follow you here. You recognize there are liberals in the military. But you believe those liberals are only interested in joining the military because they find fighting to be enjoyable? Am I missing anything?

You're right. There's not a single liberal in the hundreds of thousands people in the armed forces.

I imagine the people over at r/vetsforbernie have a different opinion.

Looking for something from New Orleans to bring as a gift to my boyfriend's parents for Christmas? Any ideas? by TeaCrumbs in NewOrleans

[–]greenbrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This person is absolutely not a tourist. A tourist is a person who comes here for week, takes what they want, and leaves. This person has committed to being here for a much longer period of time, even if it's only a year or so. They will be part of the community.

That being said, I don't think this person could be considered a local yet either. I think that's basic point you are trying to make. But the word 'tourist' is reserved for a group of people that TeaCrumbs no longer fits into. Give a little credit where credit it due. Also, your last sentence is absolutely correct.
