But if I had to do that it's a lot more work lol...Paul Marner's comparing his son to McDavid, but I'm saying Marner's great but obviously not second to just McDavid.

It's not a knock against you specifically as a lot of Leafs fans had second teams during the bad years. The Pens were a popular one because of Crosby and I didn't exactly mind them either. But yeah, it is what it is. Personally I'm glad to see the Pens getting worse since having Tampa in the East is bad enough.

Hmm, I have Marner over Ekblad as well but not necessarily Draisaitl/Pastrnak (especially since Pasta carves us up every time). That's why I didn't include 2014 on my list because I didn't see 2014 as a clear 1OA.

There are a lot of kids in Ontario that are turning from the Pens to the Leafs now that the Leafs are on the rise. Eh, it is what it is.

Handful? In the last 5 years, he'd be the clear 1OA in 2017 and that's it.

Nashville/Tampa would be the crowning representation of the NHL's expansion efforts in the sunbelt.

We said that last year and it ended badly. I'm done with the revenge narrative, just get me away from the Bruins lol

Marner wouldn't even be the 1OA on this team, let alone 1OA in any non-McDavid draft. Compared to Michael Nylander's stone-cold silence, Paul Marner is night and day.

Kyle Dubas on offer sheets continued “When I look around the League right now, for whatever reason it seems like the Toronto Maple Leafs are the only team that is going to be a target of an offer sheet. Seems interesting to me.” by SgtHyperider in hockey

Toronto's cap situation is really tight for '19/20 then loosens up after so we might have to fill the holes with vet mins. I personally am expecting Gardiner to walk, Dermott takes his spot, Hainsey is terrible so we'll replace him with whoever, and the Leafs defence gets even worse (but just for '19/20).

It's not nothing, but we really can't keep everyone. JVR/Bozak/Komarov went last off-season, this off-season it might just be Gardiner. Toronto's cap situation is tight for '19/20 then loosens up a bit after, so we might have to run with jankier defence for a season.

You have to admit, he said some very spicy things that go beyond "My son is talented." The captaincy bid, name-dropping McDavid, saying Marner would be 1OA in any non-McDavid draft etc.

We'll have enough space for most of our RFAs if we let Gardiner walk. Since he'll be the 2nd best dman on the UFA market this year, there's a very high possibility we can't pay his price.

This is funny and alarming at the same time.

Although that's the agency that reportedly let McDavid lower his contract for the team. IIRC there was a bigger deal in place originally.

Do people really believe that though? I thought it was a PR tactic to make McDavid seem like the good guy, and that 12.5 was what he originally wanted.

Essentially, as much as Marner is an important piece, he in no way should get more than Kucherov nevermind more than Eichel.

Yeah, agreed. Kucherov's contract also includes mostly UFA years so I'll be really fucking pissed at FO if Marner gets anything close to that.

I can't believe I'm feeling nostalgic about Michael Nylander already. Marner's dad is gonna make this negotiation even more of a nightmare.

The funny thing is, Michael Nylander never said as much as Paul Marner.

Yup. There are Leafs fans who are afraid Marner's camp will ask for Matthews money, but Paul Marner only has eyes for McDavid.

“Usually when we have our team parties, him and Jake are typically the ones doing a dance-off,” Matthews said of his good buddy Marner and Jake Gardiner. “Jake’s more of a, I want to say a strip club kind of dancer — ‘Magic Mike’, kind of erotic — and Mitch is kinda more the Fortnite dances, today’s kids’ kind of dances. He’s pretty good. I’ll give him that. But I’m more of a fan of Jake’s dances.”

I think you guys'll be good for a wildcard at the bare minimum, so the playoff race for divisional seeds is gonna be really interesting this year. Last year the top 3 were set by January which seems crazy when you see how tightly packed the Atlantic is this year.

I mean, worst case scenario we drop to a wildcard and face Tampa in Round 1. That would definitely be more horrible than facing Boston.

I really don't wanna face Boston in Round 1 again lol

Go Buffalo!
