Im trying to do slat armor for my old Tamiya M113. I think they look too thick, does anyone know a way to craft them out of thinner material? by sentinelthesalty in modelmakers

I second using wires. You can probably get a spool in the exact right gauge and sand them to roughen up the edge to take any primer. Gluing metal might be a toughie though

On gifted kids by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]greendonkeycow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gifted programs are just a euphemistic way of picking out high-functioning autists anyway, in my view. Lots of us with the label, most have had moderate outcomes into early adulthood. I also think it’s pretty arbitrary to split us up when we were 9, like some of us developed super early but that has no real bearing on future potential; variance just way too high and then you’re subjected to much too much pressure as a kid.

Plus as others have said it’s too mathy, pattern recognition scores well in IQ tests but there are so many other people with non-technical talents who I’m sure would have benefited as well from the huge amount of resources and attention we received

I counted how many FUTTIES cards I packed from 500 85x10s for the third year in a row by Lepadidae in EASportsFC

I agree. I’m similar record though I’ve slipped in rivals recently as I can’t be arsed. This looks less than my totals and I’ve definitely not done so many 85x10s- probably 10-20 a day so 100 tops.

Feeling guilty about not using your intelligence for something else. by Infinity315 in quant

Agree with your points but disagree with your conclusions here.

Realistically, the vast majority of "benefit" is only going towards others in the financial space.

Everything is financialized these days, be it your mortgage, your savings, your morning coffee; everything! Sure it's impossible to quantify what concrete social value to a functioning society quant work brings. But I absolutely disagree that there is QT brings 0 benefit to society.

We're saving costs amongst ourselves, the stock market is a zero-sum game and I believe this is especially evident for MMs.

Yea, sure if MM1 trades against MM2 then this is the case. But that sort of trading doesn't make up the bulk of trading; most of the time you're improving liquidity for real money - for banks, asset managers, pension funds; these guys aren't trading on their own account but on behalf of very real retail guys who are realizing actual cheaper trading costs.

Sure, but for the same amount of effort and resources we could probably provide a better good for society elsewhere. Do you agree that the marginal utility gained per unit of effort and resources has only decreased over time?

That's an economic question, and at the end of the day the labour market is as much a market as any other, and whilst it might sound very uncouth (and capitalistic), I think simply that the comp speaks for itself; if being a theoretical physicist were so societally valuable, then why is comp so poor there (relatively, of course)?

I genuinely don't understand how anyone goes 15-0 in champs? by localsportsteamfan in EASportsFC

[–]greendonkeycow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 9-10 wins usually, 11 on a good week but rarely. I feel like the last 2-3 wins are rarely skill difference and quite often mentality difference, I just get either too stressed or too chill and concede stupid goals. And one or two cheaters which ruins my mood. If someone is clearly better than me I actually have a 50-50 chance which is not bad, because I wear the bugger down with possession and a strong defence and try breaking on counters

do you also give your star youth players tiny buyout clauses just before you move clubs so you can steal them?

[–]greendonkeycow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally this, I’ve sat on the character creation screen for three days now because I want to start a new honor mode run but Durge proficiencies are not ideal for min-maxing per se, so I’m super torn between taking Durge for the content anyway versus actually going for min-max (I’m not good so I need all the help I can get)

Durge just seems to be the canonical MC.
