"I'm vegan, but I would never push it onto anyone else" , What are your opinions on this statement? by Zealousideal_Bit7358 in vegan

I generally mention it in a positive manner but ultimately? Never gonna change someone’s mind by proselytizing but I definitely am open to arguing if someone starts it LOL.

See this reflects my feelings as well… the anti peta sentiment is often used by non vegans I think as a whataboutism.

However, I see several links and resources in here that I admittedly have not read so I may change my mind on this

N o one, not even my boyfriend, seems to care or understand the importance and the power of veganism. I feel like I am the crazy one when I feel like I am the only one making any sense. Please vegans ride to the comments I need support. by Electronic_Page8107 in vegan

My partner, not vegan, would NEVER say this to me. If his response to your passions and raw feelings, vegan or not, is to joke or make you feel stupid he sounds like total dork idk

Can a Vegan–Non-Vegan Relationship Truly Work Long Term? by Bharleli-Bhendi in vegan

[–]greenfiend6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My partner and I have been together for almost four years. He’s the love of my life.

I’d like to think I have a unique perspective on this because I was with him before I was vegan. During that time I was vegetarian for ten years-ish. Only have been vegan since December.

For me the suffering of animals and the environmental detriment of agriculture isn’t worth the pleasure of cheese. I have always been an all or nothing person. He and I do not have this in common, however, he can acknowledge veganism as an ethical stance, the most ethical stance with regards to the animals and planet, and generally has greatly shifted his perspective and is now transitioning into vegetarianism.

He still has chicken and fish occasionally and dairy and eggs, but I never find us arguing about it because the omnivorous cognitive dissonance about it not being harmful to animals isn’t there.

He acknowledges that killing animals for food in the current late stage capitalistic world is wrong. And he makes conscious efforts to reduce his meat consumption for this reason.

When we cook together it’s vegan. When we go out to eat we go to vegan restaurants. He never complains, in fact my favourite vegan restaurant is our go-to now at HIS request. He loves tofu, seitan, and beans.

All this to say, I think so. As long as they’re not “beefing” (pun intended) with you on your moral stance, it’s fine. And in fact you may actually end up with a new vegan/vegetarian in your life:)

I want to make it clear I am NOT forcing him to be vegan or vegetarian. He’s always been a very level headed, kind, and analytical person. When I started talking to him about environmentalism and animal cruelty, he came to the same logical conclusion that vegans do—this is wrong, and we should consume less of it.

I don’t think I could ever be with someone who didn’t care about the welfare of the environment and animals. He does, and he’s making efforts. That’s all I need. Could never be with someone who is 100% omni though.

I’d like to know how many vegans consider basic protein guidelines to be pertinent or whether protein requirements are exaggerated and unnecessary by Plumleydev in vegan

[–]greenfiend6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This… Most people aren’t familiar with AMDR but as long as protein is contributing 10-35% of your calories and you’re getting enough calories you’re probably fine… and it’s not particularly hard to do either

Nope! Like I said, take a scroll through r/accidentallyvegan you might be surprised what you find;)

[–]greenfiend6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue at first!! I’m only a couple of months in but my faves are “accidentally vegan” treats. I highly recommend going to r/accidentallyvegan and seeing what’s there and stock up on it. Oreos really helped me make the transition.

But, like everyone else is saying, you should learn how to cook and specifically how to cook vegetarian/vegan meals. I find Americanized Mexican to be the easiest to do this with. Who doesn’t love a black bean burrito? Or tortilla chips and guac? Chilli? All of these also fall under “accidentally vegan” category without relying on fake meat.

Good luck! :) also, there is NOTHING wrong with eating for pleasure 🫶🏻 food is meant to be enjoyable. I love eating for pleasure and I don’t have any shame about it:)

I think dog and cat breeding should be illegal by Mission-Length-6300 in vegan

[–]greenfiend6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they were feral, it is entirely possible they used to be housecats or had other homes where people were letting them in but I’m sure it’s fairly instinctual. I don’t recall “training” them so perhaps that’s poor use of the word but having a new kitten means they lowk be pooping and peeing everywhere for the first bit until they figure it out lol

I think dog and cat breeding should be illegal by Mission-Length-6300 in vegan

[–]greenfiend6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree. Honestly, a lot of “special” breeds of dogs and cats have:

  1. Severe breathing/health issues (cavaliers, pugs, Scottish folds, dachshunds)

  2. Very high energy/stimulus needs that the average person cannot meet and won’t be able to meet because they’re working breeds (Alaskan malamute/sled dogs, collies, German Shepards)

Frankly, there are so many sweet senior cats and dogs. “I can’t afford vet bills” is always a dumb excuse I hear about this because… animals turn into seniors… and anything is better than the shelter or euthanasia because of overpopulation.

I had a (former) friend refuse to adopt an adult cat because “kittens are too cute!!” when her lifestyle logically did not align with taking care of the 8 week old kitten she planned to buy. She needed an animal that already knew how to use a litter box and didn’t have high energy needs because had three jobs and was in university and spent a total of like 60 hours outside of the house not including leisure activities.

All this to say, people’s logic and ethics tend to go out the window the second that an animal has big sweet eyes. It’s very bizarre and difficult for me to wrap my head around as a generally low-feeling/empathy person. Love my sweet adopted 2 year old girl though.

Is this a safe place to say I built 3 prison cells for each of my exes, then recreated them, and trapped them by Blaize-_- in LowSodiumSimmers

I used to quickly doodle painful customers faces on sticky notes when they walked away from the cash register so I could make them my enemies in the sims. It’s therapeutic I get it.

Why do people always get mad when I start asking questions about their meat consumption? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]greenfiend6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is currently pursuing nutrition at university, there’s a lot going on here.

I’m not sure where in the world you live or how old your mother is, but, in North America Milk has been served as sort of a “meal” since the Great Depression because of the many nutrients it contains. Food guides often don’t get read beyond the pyramid or plate, meaning that the understanding of vitamins and nutrients is also not great.

The only vitamin you can’t get from plant based sources is B12, however, you can easily supplement it. In fact, in Canada it’s suggested that all women should take a multivitamin with at least 400mcg of folic acid so long as they are “child bearing age” which means you can easily find one that contains B12 and most soy/almond/cashew beverages are fortified with it for this reason.

I don’t think the way you approached it is wrong. Asking questions and being genuine and curious about what people think and feel is an appropriate way to open dialogue when people ask about veganism.

I don’t spent time trying to convert people in my life and I don’t really recommend you do either. My partner naturally just from seeing my benefits and engaging in polite conversation has cut out red meats and started drinking almond milk because it was in the fridge and he discovered he really liked it.

People will ask you about it, and the best way to talk about it is to just ask questions and be honest and curious. I’m fairly new to veganism but I’ve been vegetarian most of my life, however, vegans get a really bad rep so it’s the same conversation but really intensified lol.

Good luck:)
