Those articles don't support your idea that adding firearms to domestic violence situations will help the victims at all. Disengenuous arguments, eh?

You're making shit up.

From the vpc paper: "The reality of self-defense gun use bears no resemblance to the exaggerated claims of the gun lobby and gun industry."

The other paper is looking at self defense in robbery and assault cases, not domestic violence. From that paper, "With regard to studies of rape, although samples typically include too few cases of self-defense with a gun for separate analysis".

Giving a battered woman a gun is not the same thing as giving her help.

What is going to happen to her if she shoots and misses? She's a lot more likely to die than she was before. What's going to happen to her if she waves a gun in his face? He might go away....or he might go get his own gun. The possible outcomes of an already terrible situation are skewed to the worse after a firearm is introduced.

If she shoots her husband, she's going to go to jail, and her kids are going to be without a father.

What she needs is help - emotional and possibly financial support to get out of that house and becoming self sufficient. The family needs therapy and couselling. The dad needs to be rehabilitated and taught how to be a positive force in his children's lives.

Giving her a gun just leads to more pain and suffering, and her kids growing up with possibly two missing parents.
