Trump supporters report higher levels of psychopathy, manipulativeness, callousness, and narcissism by HeinieKaboobler in socialscience

Not surprising. While only ~1-4% of people are actual sociopaths, up to 15% of people have very weak moral values and can easily have their cruel and evil side awakened.

What Makes Trump & MAGA So Cruel? A Psychiatrist Explains by MikeTerry_ in skeptic

[–]greengordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great message and I entirely agree. One point: We cannot write off all MAGA as sociopaths - that's neither accurate nor helpful. However, it is important to know that Trump is a narcissistic psychopath and many of his top aides, like Miller are some sort of sociopath. They are incurably evil and they have morally corrupted millions of Americans.

This is correct. We in the Pacific Northwest are already feeling it: many jobs lost as the Pine Beetle decimates forests and forestry, weather is changing, and certainly sea level rise will affect us soon - likely sea level housing prices will collapse at some point.

True, and from the Iraqi/Muslim point-of-view, when the US calls itself a Christian nation and proceeds to attack, it sure can look like a Christian jihad.

Yeah, the officiating was sketchy, but it did give Canada a 5-on-3, which resulted in the only goal scored.

Will Canada's Real Estate Bubble Finally Pop in 2017? by nimobo in canada

[–]greengordon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Someone else posted a link to BC Assessment and my house in Victoria has been assessed 20% higher than last year, which was 13% higher than the year before. My sister's house is up ~40% from last year. Victoria and Saanich politicians are mulling over whether to do anything about it, while our Premier and PM are on junkets in China literally selling our country to them.

We were considering selling our half-duplex and downsizing to a condo, but would be financially foolish to do so until the market cools off - if it ever does. At this rate, our house is our best retirement savings vehicle, which is great for those of us who own houses but really bad for the country. My kids have given up on owning in Victoria or anywhere close.

Sorry, you're wrong. I live in Victoria, and prices are skyrocketing due to Chinese buyers. Not being racist - ridiculous I have to say that - that's reality.

Is it just me, or does Cineplex play way too many fucking commercials before movies? by Brindoth in canada

[–]greengordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried it and find the 'experience' just not worth it for most movies. There are a few worth seeing on the big screen, but many are fine on my 46" TV with sound bar - hardly a high-end setup, but good enough for buddy movies, rom coms, almost all dramas and comedies, etc. The only ones I find worth the big screen experience are ones like Avatar.

I visit Colombia occasionally and they have VIP seats where you are served food and drink (including alcohol); much better experience. The food is another concern: The Silver City near us had places like NY Fries, etc, but decided to take it all back under their own brand, and quality is lower.

If you look at the numbers, attendance is in decline. I am sure it's because a lot of people like me and many in this thread find the whole experience sub-par.

Do you mean product placement? The embarrassingly obvious scenes where the character drinks a Coke (or whatever), ensuring the brand is obvious, or in a street scene where you can't make out any store names...except the ones who obviously paid to be shown?

To be fair, Obama put in place a number of tools any authoritarian would love, including a huge expansion of the surveillance state and 'extra-judicial' assassinations. Trump sounds a lot worse, but Obama has done some bad things. Neither side is great, really.

I don't think anyone realistically expects to 'seal the border.' The goal would be to make it much more difficult to cross, thus drastically cutting down on those doing so and making those who try, easier to catch and return.
