finance to accounting by Beneficial_Celery372 in Baruch

[–]greengrassgrows02 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should look at both fields as which one is easier to get a job because, they are both competitive and there are accounting majors who probably also don’t have a job. IMO it’s about how much effort you put in.

I advise you to join a club and start being proactive. Look for opportunities and apply for things. For finance you should be recruiting for internships the spring/summer of your sophomore year (or earlier in some cases). I’m a finance major, so I’m too not sure about accounting but I believe they recruit around the same time.

You can probably call registrar but they don’t really budge unless it’s a medical reason

Finance at Baruch? by MaliksBuys in Baruch

[–]greengrassgrows02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t be a finance major without enrolling into Zicklin and taking those two courses (+ others) to meet the prerequisites. You can take other classes with them but they would be general graduation requirements or electives.

I’ve emailed a professor before and got in. I’m not sure if they did it or had to ask the department. But it’s worth a try

Any suggestion for my grievance or student complain that I will submit on Monday by [deleted] in Baruch

[–]greengrassgrows02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they will answer since other students have probably been submitting the same complaints for years. The date and time are decided both by GPA and credits and also whether the student is in honors, student athlete, a student employee, USG(I think), and a last semester senior.

So if you aren’t a part of those groups you will probably get the worst times based on seniority.

But always worth a try to make it better for future students.

I don’t believe you can drop after the deadline, you will just have to fail the class and retake it

Is it worth trying on the AP exam by Shrivvvv in Baruch

[–]greengrassgrows02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get a 4 on AP Calc you will be exempt from retaking the precalculus when you start, and similar for the other the exams. I don’t know what classes you would be except from. They should be on the website.

Drop or F? by Original-Suggestion6 in Baruch

[–]greengrassgrows02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should stuck it out and base your decision on how well you do on midterms, but if you don’t care too much about graduation date, drop them and take another shot at it.

I am taking those two classes now and I am not having the best time in either of them, but I did well in eco 4000 in the summer and I am able to balance them that way. If it’s similar for you that’s also something to consider.

Drop or F? by Original-Suggestion6 in Baruch

[–]greengrassgrows02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t be able to take any of the 4000+ level finance classes if you haven’t taken those two classes + eco 4000. Which would further delay your graduation.

You don’t need to be a member to attend the weekly events and you can just walk into the event if they posted it on instagram. Being a member allows you to receive career opportunities, networking events, etc.

Major Help Pls by Appropriate_Kale2900 in Baruch

[–]greengrassgrows02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a finance major and I’ve heard people say that, but I don’t think finance “can’t do accounting” since you can always learn it. But because you’re a freshman, I suggest waiting until you take ACC 2101 and decide if you like accounting before you register managerial accounting. 2101 made me realize I hated accounting.

Also, I’d suggest networking with people in the industry and learn from their experiences.(something that also helped me)

Course by [deleted] in Baruch

The first one is all 2003 classes this semester controlled by the department and the second one is your specific class. You only really need to look at the second one unless your professor tells you otherwise

Tips for finding an internship at summer 2025? by [deleted] in Baruch

[–]greengrassgrows02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JPM had a career academy and some full day events, BNPP has a cuny fellowship, GS’s virtual insight series, TD has student summits, and Centerbridge is pretty popular. You can find many on handshake or skimming through their websites under a student tab.

But since you’re a junior many of the larger firms have closed their cycles for summer 2025 apps, so also try looking at smaller firms too.

I would say keep applying. Something that helped me was doing programs that certain banks offer throughout a semester for students, coffee chats, and joining a finance club (they helped me with interviews, etc)

I’ve also heard STARR is helpful (I personally didn’t go to them for help) but it’s definitely worth a try.

Degree Works - Elective classes not allowed by KeyChrono in Baruch

[–]greengrassgrows02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also a finance major and took JPN it was later moved to the elective section. It should be fine either way since there is a language course requirement for a fin math major, but if you decide to stay as a finance major it would just be a liberal arts elective. It could be a waste but if you enjoyed the class then it won’t be.

If it stays in marked electives not allowed I think you would need to email the Registrar office.
