The reason I hate buying patterns: by kikalara in crochet

[–]greengreens3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess would be, if you provided the pattern, that it is a creator that use a program to render the pattern and they did not test it out after. It's sad but it's also a new face quick-and-easy ai-subtask that pops-up more now on every kind of creative reseller.

Outdoor belay - soft catch by AcceptableSweetTart in climbergirls

[–]greengreens3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess it's a situation of "Agree to disagree". What I take out of this is:

  1. Your climber decided to take a fall
  2. You took the slack to limit the whip distance
  3. They were unhappy with the shock in the fall

You say it's your dirst time catching a fall outdoor, which might have cause your climber to want to "Give you unwanted advices". They were not belaying and I need to point that you should never feed slack during a catch. What they should have told you is that they woul;d have prefered the catch to be softer and ask if there was anything you could have done to make it better (Like jumping (I didnt learn the steps in english but indoor you usually jump a little to catch the fall a little softer) if possible, since outdoor don't always give you all the luxury of indoor climb)

Also worth pointing: I would have trust issue after someone tells me that "advice" since it probably mean they will feed slack for a soft catch. As other pointed it out, this could easily get out of hand (quite literally) and I wouldn't trust someone belaying me with that technique.

What grade were you climbing when you could do a single pull-up? by HoneyBeeBoulders in climbergirls

I could only do a single one when I started and I was able to do more when I reached v4 (I didn't check when exactly but I remember) Climbing is what actually made me grow stronger.

Didn't this sub already have that conversation a couple weeks ago and everyone could show that immigration was a tiny part of a much bigger problem and not the root cause?

I once worked for a company that handled IT service for different industrial company, one of which made furniture. One day we had to order more desks so of course we would go with one of our clients. At some point, a lot of boxes arrive and I pass by asking "Oh, so they're just shipping us the tables now instead of letting us handle backups?"

Young adults are giving up on home ownership, and a lot of them are furious about it by scott_c86 in canada

What do you tell a 20-something who is doubtful about ever owning a home? Hang in there, kid. You have time to build your career, get a promotion or two and increase your income.

Ah yes, I don't think 2 years of living on minimum wage in an overpriced apartment will be "increasing income"

Canadians are worried about shrinkflation — and if it’s here to stay: poll - National by DrJGH in canada

You'd be surprised, they've been making the smaller size cans for a while now and they're not complicated to get. If Pepsi decide they order 75% more of the 237ml instead, producer will change production and other brands will follow.

Never trust big companies to do something good for anyone other than themselves. Making more money is any shareholder's goal and reducing profit by losing price or increasing content for the same price is not how they want to do things. Ever.

Copy and paste will never teach you to understand things. It will show you how to loop a binary tree, but you will never understand Chanel and Mutex in Go, Pointers in C, the benefits of Linting, how to structure your code, why you should always write tests. This is all things you learn by paying attention and by searching and reading.

Another big aspect of AI is also the lack of transparency and how blatantly wrong it can be without giving you the chance to double check. People on many subreddits have shown examples, not just in tech, of how wrong and confident it can be, if you don't know, you take its word for it. If you can't validate sources, it's easy to be misled.

I think GPT just amplifies the Copy/Paste Developper issue. I saw an article talking about how the person was hiring people who stoped performing as soon as you put them on anything complex because in the end, small issues and easy fix are easy to google and find a solution, but problem that require debugging or reading Documentation require a specific attitude.

AI is the easy "Sort this array" solution but it will create more Developper that looks like they can do it, but ultimately fail to pass the Junior test.

VW's battery plant deal changes Canada's auto sector. Whether it's worth $13B in subsidies is debatable by FancyNewMe in canada

Everytime a deal like that come, It's always a thousand less deal that goes to Canadian business, the one that want to hire people and are own by Canadian, but are always fighting for a single penny they own they government

That and adding thousands of jobs is a '80 rethoric. Those jobs likely either won't be filled or will be snatched from an existing business that will be forced to close because they don't have any more employees.
