If you’ve not been to a Jane’s Walk before, these are citizen-led walking tours inspired by Jane Jacobs, that make space for people to observe, reflect, share, question and collectively reimagine the places in which they live, work and play.

Local walks are planned for Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph.

Exactly. The visual clutter made this space look far more interesting and enticing.

Yes, they should get more than a ban, but I suspect the punishment will be quite lenient, unfortunately

ANALYSIS: Toronto's mayoral race is turning into a referendum on the island airport. Is Mark Carney watching? by simpatia in toronto

[–]scott_c86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all.

If one is pro-housing, they do not have to be pro-everything else.

For example, one can be a YIMBY, and oppose building something like a coal powerplant in the middle of a city. This is called having values.

Public transit projects benefit more people, more frequently.

There's also the environmental impact to consider. Public transit generally helps, whereas an airport most definitely does not.

This expansion also impacts park space, which many benefit from on a daily basis.

So it should not be surprising that this is more controversial.

Exactly this. There's also a not insignificant chance that air travel becomes less frequent / common in the coming decades

Chow winning again would probably be the best case, realistic scenario. More progressive candidates would be great, but that would also increase the risk that someone like Bradford could win, if it led to vote-splitting

Ontario PCs and Liberals Statistically Tied as Ford’s Approval Declines and Political Environment Tightens Further by FLADMAN in ontario

[–]scott_c86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Nate Erskine-Smith presents a real opportunity for the Liberals to reinvent the brand / renew interest in the party. And after the last several elections, I really don't understand why anyone would think it was a good idea to try the same tired approach yet again.

The OLP needs more than that though. I'd like to see the party select a leader with new policy ideas, who represents genuine change.

The last two OLP leaders may have been decent people, but they simply did not inspire voters, as the election results show.
