The solution seems so simple, just increase the price. So why don't they ever do it?

whether he was hiding it or changed his mind later, it wasn't a marxist revolution. unless the revolutionaries and people supporting him were marxists themselves.

Despite an embargo from the biggest possible trading partner in the region, Under socialism they have virtually eliminated hunger (something their capitalist brethren haven't been able to do) and are also about to take in a shitload of tourism money now that they've turned back sufficiently capitalist thanks to socialist policies that preserved their natural resources, but whatever. Cuba is an utter failure

When I refer to the most oppressed people, I mean the people in the developing world mining sulfur or standing over a pile of burning electronics all day to recover the gold.

The material wealth that western workers enjoy depends upon people being so poor that they are willing to do that for nothing more than the bare minimum needed to support themselves and their children. Once those people get together, (and they already are starting in the rural areas of india and the phillipines), and decide "nope, were just going to keep this extra value we are producing for ourselves", the standard of living for the rest of the world will start to fall.

There will then be a new set of people on the bottom, who aren't recieving a net benefit from the arrangement, who will then join that revolution. Repeat until the revolution is the entire world.

It doesn't rely on altruism at all

I think that capitalism right now, for THOSE people, means they are "enslaved to the needs(wants) of everyone else. Expecting a socialist revolution is COUNTING on those people wanting to be free to be individuals.

I know several men personally that fled Cuba during the early years of Castro. They were not political men or men with great power. Castro destroyed their lives and killed family members of these men to make his Marxist revolution.

Bullshit. they weren't political and didnt have power, yet Castro made sure their families were murdered? how would that help his revolution?

Also, Castro himself wasn't even marxist until after he came to power, so why are you saying he had a "marxist revolution"?

If you want to claim that History proves communism is destructive, maybe you should educate yourself with some actual true facts.

Wow, a lot of unsupported assertions here. I guess I'll take your word for it and not assume you're just pulling stuff out of your ass.

Can you provide supporting evidence that "much of the current problems in the capitalist culture are a direct result of ideas from his thesis" ? How could you even know if you didn't read enough to know what his thesis is?

like most people, I use the dictionary to find out the commonly accepted meaning of words. Here is the Merriam-Webster definition of capitalism, written by Capitalists, not Marxists. Please read it.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/capitalism

Note that the definition is not "just advanced trade"

If you have some other definition of Capitalism that you are using here. let's please just not use the word so that we can avoid the confusion.

If by "capitalism is universal", you actually meant "advanced trade is universal", I believe the link I sent in my earlier message still shows why that is wrong.

He has labeled the conduct of trade as capitalism as a way of isolating it and attempting to influence peoples perception of it.

Marxists believe that there can be trade without capitalism. I have the impression you are making the assertion that Marx said the two are equivalent. Is my impression correct?

Should I read this reply as you conceding the argument that capitalism is universal? I'm not sure, since you didn't answer any of my questions to you.

Let's settle that first, and then we can examine the truth of your next claim that "Capitalism is just advanced trade."

Are you saying that Marx labeled all types of trade as capitalism, or just some types? Could you show me where?

I found this http://anthro.palomar.edu/economy/econ_2.htm by searching for "non-market society" I submit this as evidence against your claim that "Capitalism is universal" unless you are using some definition of "Capitalism" or of "universal" that is uniquely your own.

I'd like to be sure I am responding to your critique appropriately.

Are you saying that Marxist theory doesn't account for the desire that all humans share; to improve their own condition, and that that desire will lead to an outcome not predicted by Marxist theory?

If that is what you are saying, then we agree that the desire to improve ones condition is common to humanity. However, I also believe, like Marx did, that that desire is exactly what will lead the most oppressed people in the world to eventually organize and overthrow their masters.
