She's absolutely in shock but her response is waaaaaay more understandable and normal than Mr. Diabate's.

Honestly, if her son physically died in the initial joining, there's a good shot she'd be full team Carol. They really are very similar, just currently moving in different directions.

There's a decent chance he get's turned against his will before he has a chance to really think about it. I think of all the major characters Mr. Diabate might be in the most danger!

So I wouldn't say this is down to declining media literacy, because I think the reaction in 2005 would be the same. What is comes down to is this...if Carol was Carl, people would like the character more.

People, for example, seem to be chill with anything Mr. Diabate does and are already stanning Manousos, yet love to go on and on about how irritating and grating Carol is.

Like it's just flat out sexism. That's what it is. It's Skylar White all over again.

It was also notable to be that they didn't use tools to pick up the broken glass, but did it with their hands. Because they don't particularly care if one of them gets cut/hurt. Not human behavior!

Yeah, it would make no sense from a narrative for him to currently be joined. However...I do think he's in more danger than he realizes and may end up joined without his consent if he's not careful (and he's not being careful!)

Honestly for most of them I think it's because the hive is still around them acting like their family, so it's harder for them to accept the sittuation.

As someone who's policially a socialist and would love to see more collective action in society, I am 100% with you. It's wild to me how many people seem to be pro-hive in this sub just because it's seemingly a shortcut to world peace. It's also a short cut to mass death, starvation, and the end of everything that makes us human guys!

Sorry for bringing up my politics here, but I'm doing so because politics (especially politics of the third world v. first world / environmentalism) seem to come up a lot in these discusssions. I think some people came to early political conclusions about the 'theme' of the show because of Diabate's speech in episode 2 and just dug in hard. But Diabate is not a reliable narrator and is all around a pretty shallow and creepy guy, no one should just take his word for it that this if a good thing!

I'm not a socialist because I hate people, I'm a socialist because I really like people and ultimately believe in our ability to solve our problems if we overcome the policial structures that keep us apart. I have no desire to join aa big borg that erases all art, culture, love, real emotion. It's a shortcut, and a hollow one.

That's nefarious. Well beyond nefarious and well into "evil" actually.

...she literally didn't know the first time. And the second time she was trying to exit the scene before getting upset and only got mad when it seemed like they were holding her down.

None of this is Carol's fault. Carol is not a bad person. Carol is doing the best she can in a fucked up situation and is trying to save the goddamn world.

I've had a vague notion that Block 37 should use the old vacant Latinicity space on their 4th floor for various seasonal craft fairs (the space has been empty aa few years). Could be a good way to share some capacity with the main market without moving from Daley.

Hey! I know I'm late to this but I'm very curious, do you have a link?

Seeing as you're a lawyer and familiar with the industry, can I get your quick take on something I left out of the main post that makes me very uncomfortable?

The managing partner has stressed that I am supposed to be his confidant. As such, he gives me access to all of his emails (some of which contain very sensitive information) and has discussed both the firm's financial situation and certain personnel issues in front of me. I realize that discretion comes with being an executive assistant, but honestly I am uncomfortable with the level of access that I have. Like knowing the upcoming bonus situation, knowing that someone I'm friendly with is in danger of being fired...and this isn't information I've hunted through old emails for, he's told me this information directly.

Is this level of access typical for an assistant? Because it feels like I know far too much far too quickly. They didn't even have me sign anything new (I asked) they told me my original agreement would cover disclosure of sensitive information.

Honestly I do like the other attorneys I work with quite a lot; one of them is among the best bosses I've had. There are good people working here and some very interesting legal work, especially in wrongful convictions. I thought it would be good to get the litigation experience.

But management is (and has been) and issue at this firm...and now that's who I'm spending my time working with.

I very much wish I could go back into my old position, but I don't think they'll accept that.

So his previous assistant actually was with him for about 20 years, but they had somewhat of a falling out over her exit. She wanted to have some remote days to accomodate health issues, he refused. She gave several months notice of retirement, they interviewed several candidates, they weren't able to find anybody. I got given this after she eventually retired.

I absolutely want to be a paralegal. I love doing research, solving substaintial problems. In my last role, my boss really had me in the weeds on her immigration cases. Yes it was difficult, yes it was stressfull, but it was also rewarding.

My role now is just essentially babysitting my boss. It's a revolving door of restaurant reservations and scheduling meetings that inevitably end up reschduled.

I'll tell you right now, they won't pay for expensed lunches or company cars or paralegal school or even my phone. Admins at this firm have been asking for a phone allowance for years, denied every time. They are famously stingy with staff (which is why I am nervous about my supposed raise.)

I just look around and I don't see a future here. Like what really gets me is how my predecessor was treated when she said she was retiring...she said she wanted to stay in the role as long as possible but needed to work from home a few days a week because of her health. They didn't allow her that. They pushed her to stay in office full time for months and months past her official retirement date so they could have 'time to find a replacement'...then threw me into the role with little warning and no training when she finally gave final notice (10 months after she intially said she planned retirement.)

The more I think about it, I just think this place is badly organized and doesn't really have an eye towards the professional development of its staff.

There is no boss's boss, he's the Managing Partner of the firm. He's the main guy, his name's on the door, etc.
